Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Hey, I'm retiring from my 'day' job thursday, got a new years eve gig tomorrow nite, plus others scheduled, the 8th grandchild just got here before christmas, my fellow workers gave me a transparent orange P bass as my gold watch (which I promptly changed to a jazz neck on) and I get #50!?!?!?? I haven't been fifty in 12 years!! What kinda show you running here?

You got your place in line. Now be quiet or I'll chuck your dentures into the lake and make you gum your dinner. ;)

I turn 60 in 2.5 years.

It seems half the stuff in my Christmas stocking this year was purchased at a pharmacy (and I loved everything......that's the scary part!)

Remember when waking up stiff used to be a good thing? :hmm:

And as for the "grumpy" part, I think today's music sucks wangus and swallows. (What really bums me out is, when I was a kid in the 60's and I would hear my parents talking about "today's" music being so awful, I swore I would never say that when I grew up. And here I am saying it.)

Yep. Kids these days...

There's some good stuff out there, but being a grumpy old fart and a crank, I don't have patience to wade through the chaff to find it.

Remember when songs had verses, a chorus and tried to tell a story or convey a thought in as as little time as possible. Now repeat one or two lines until the timer runs out or rhyme some spoken words (hey kids the beatniks used to do that without the profanity).

Remember when all that was needed to play bass was the THUMB of the right hand.

Curiously, I tried a "Beatle" bass earlier this month and couldn't quite get the hang of it. Too narrow string spacing for my stubby fingers. Made for pickers.

Thanks b string. This is the most fun I've had on a computer in a while. Amazing how us 'grumps' think alike. All them whipper snapper, wanna be bass players could learn a thing or 2 here, if they could learn to read between the lines......but i'll venture a guess here that most of us never learned to read those lines & spaces. Too much trouble, that's what ears are for

Keep up the rhetoric, brain cells die everyday!

You know what bass players use for birth control don't you? Their personality.............

If it makes you feel any better, I remember going to shows in the 90s. The shows were fun, but the music was never stellar. --signed a 20 year-old. :hiding:

I remember some guy named Leo, he asked me to help him with the new Bass Guitar thing he envisioned, so I gave him some tips. He didn't listen to me about trademarks tho........... Kids........what do they know!

They're looking at each other wondering, "what's a beatnik?" :hmm:

Helpful tip: Google "Maynard G. Krebs"

Yes it's like when I first saw "line dancing" and my mind went back to American Bandstand watching The Stroll.
I did learn to read charts, been at least 25 years since I have. No one ever developed a way to notate the emotion of the piece. There is way more between and in the lines than sharps, flats and rests.
