Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I remember when a bass amp could fall out of the back of your pickup driving down the highway and you could still use it at the gig. I also remember when you could accidently drive your car over your bass and still play it at the gig. Now that was gear! I don't know about this new stuff, seems kind of flimsy to me. Sarcasm intended.

I'm kind of new to playing bass, I started in about 1965 and someday I hope to be good. If I could just learn my scales, maybe a decent teacher would put up with me. Just how old do you have to be to join this outfit? I'm not as good as I once was, but, I'm as good once as I'll ever be!

My first bass amp was one channel of an old Silvertone six 10, 120 watt guitar amp. The other channel was our PA. Then I built myself an amp using the tube amp out of a Seeburg Jukebox. What a looser! No volume, waste of a good jukebox amp.
Then I spent big money for a Vox Essex Bass amp. I was told it was 50 watts. I found out recently that it was only 40. I could have spent the same amount and bought 2 used Fender Bass amps with 2/12s each and had far more to work with. That's when I started getting really grumpy!

as i approach 60 i qualify for the old.also as i love spicy food, rum and beer i guess fart is a word i can relate to but for the life of me i cant seem to get grumpy( except when i hear politicians)so i think i'll listen to you guys have a good chunter and wait until the grumpyness kicks in and then join.keep a chair ready for me though coz for sure that day will come.
good moaning fellas and have a vexing new year.

Hey guys we've got one of our own in trouble. We need to help our brother gray matter take the first step. Don't worry man, it gets easier. Embrace it, take it to lunch, but it some new gear. Pretty soon the grumpy will wrap you in it's warm blanket and you'll wonder why you fought it for so long. Then you can enjoy the club with us so much more. Wait a minute, naw, he's a bass player. Let him figure it out by himself. That's what we do........

I am older (barely) than Rotosound Swingbass strings. Therefore, by default, I am a member. Number, please.

I'm still using an 8 year old flip phone and even older CRT computer monitor.
In 2007, the senior partner in my uncle's law firm died. He did a lot of estate work. In cleaning out his files, we found an old Bell 500 desk rotary phone. I asked to borrow it. Thankfully, someone had previously installed a current modular jack instead of the hard wire lugs or the older large 4-prong plug.

I took it home. My son and his friend had their faces buried in their respective game controllers and did not see me enter. I went into the kitchen, unplugged our phone, plugged in the old phone, dialed the number on my cell, and waited.

Brrrrring! Brrrrring! Nothing. Then again, of course, Brrrrring! Brrrrring!

Together they exclaimed, "WHAT WAS THAT?" I then showed them. They "answered" and I taught them how to use the corded handset, how to rotary dial, how to click the receiver cradle in case of emergency if the hand set or rotor malfunctioned, and so on.

Yes, we now have a generation of people who have never heard a traditional telephone bell, and do not know how to use them.

Number, please?
