Nearly certainly the first Zappa album I listened to carefully. By 72-3 I started my Zappa "collection" with the intent of owning every Zappa album. By 82 that began to present economic hardship keeping up with releases.
Any steel guitarists here?......No?.......Good!......
Steel guitar is the primary reason that I'm unable to tolerate much of the Country music out there.....
It drives me nuts!........Fingernails on a chalkboard are preferable.......BAGPIPES are preferable!.....
Drunk guy in bar with harmonica is even preferable.....
Nasty whiney bloody instruments.....
I always liked the smooth pedal steel intro on Teach Your Children. It was written by a guy called Jerry Garcia. In return for Jerry playing his arrangement on the track, Graham Nash promised to provide some vocal harmony lessons to the members of the Grateful Dead.

While, yes, I have played with a couple of border-line crappy steel guitar players, mostly I played with the late
Buddy Castelberry...a Monster player, and a jewel of a man.
Buddy was a Fine player who could take a 3-chord Ernest Tubb song and have them Waltzing Across Texas into the wee small hours...

I'll bet that Buddy WAS a fine player....It makes no difference to me how well it's being played.....It's that it's being played at all....^^^

Someone played the pipes for a Buddhist's final journey a few years back. Really uncertain why I was invited to the funeral.

One of my bands used to play that one. In the middle of Deadhead jams. No actual hippies were harmed in the imagination of this video.
I was all over FZ pretty much by the time Freak Out was released. First live show I saw was in 1970 IIRC. Latest one was his son Dweezil's band ZPZ, this actual show:

Roger that. I've had a fretted bass for a few years now after a 30+ year span without and it's still not all that comfortable for me to play at all. But at least I can pick a random one up at a jam or my luthier friend's shop now and not totally embarass myself. More than usual, that is!
