I prefer real books, just like I prefer.............

I eventually ordered my new 16” MacBook Pro over the phone. Tried to pay with may AmEx card but was declined! Paid instead with my Master Card. .... Settle down to eat breakfast and AmEx calls to ask if it was me buying the computer. My attempt had triggered a Fraud Alert! <sigh>

I just called my sister in the UK as I couldn’t reach her yesterday. Today is also my late Father's birthday. She’s watching the Dam Busters movie. She said that our Dad was on that mission. I didn’t know, I’m ashamed to say. but Dad never talked about his wartime experiences. He flew with the fourth group of Lancasters. I wish I could give him a big hug right now!!

Once upon a time, contact or paper and tape for the cover — if you wished — and the means to be able to hand the text on, when you're done.

In a brave new world, there's a cloud, plus an external hard-drive in place of the dust jacket; there's planned obsolescence, and the potential to be pinged at some stage, for sharing / handing off, donating, unwanted books files.

I'm ambivalent. It's the thought that counts. … Book 'em Dano.

Certain subjects lend themselves to notes in the margins.

Marginalia is a thing with collectors, these days. Scrawled insights and details from notable owners, beyond the print, can be invaluable.

According to prophecy, started the process that leads to a pre-op appointment for fusion of the right subtalar joint. Christmas morning found it difficult to bear weight on that foot. Took executive breakfast and Odin's working on a chewie. All is well.

No fun when the pins don't wanna play. Do you have crutches for those off days? From experience, the Canadian ones are the best … Just one can be enough, when you're favoring a leg.

They gave me a walker because (surprise) needed it on the other side of two full knee replacements. My physical therapists are the best. However .... I prefer their company in a social setting over a professional setting.

My Dorothy needs two knees too. She needs to have a stent in her left thigh first though. Hopefully January 8.

The documentary explains some factors in my boyhood. I was born in navenby lincolnshire. I had no idea what we were doing in that Shire. After we came back from Germany we lived in Coventry. Wow this has been an education!

Wishing you both well. Two knees at once is brutal. Physical therapy is everything. Certain you both know that! FWIW I would rather do both knees at the same time than one in the knowledge I'd be doing it all over again.

One advantage to being older is you can do all sorts of stuff, like act like a fool, talk to yourself in public. etc. and the "others" just look and say, "These old farts! Get 'em off our lawns!"

We can get away with things the younguns' can't.

Wishing you both well. Two knees at once is brutal. Physical therapy is everything. Certain you both know that! FWIW I would rather do both knees at the same time than one in the knowledge I'd be doing it all over again.

Based on witnessing my relative after surgury of one knee, I suggest do one knee at a time. You can't be lame in both knees and still get around. Too much risk of poor healing.
