I visit this thread on a regular basis to make myself appreciate my own relatively good health (at age 64). Keep those stories coming. And I wish for those that need it a speedy recovery. Don't worry...I'm still grumpy.

P.S. Looking at my avatar, you'd never guess that I'm 64.

M. M. :)

Health is very important. My sweet Wife battled Breast Cancer last year and I just got my spine whittled on last week. It's been a rough ride baby!

Yep I guess so Paul, haha. I've been dealing with a frozen shoulder (started with two at the same time but the R one is improved) for 3 going on 4 months now. It's driving me crazy. I can only comfortably play my one and only 32" Urge. If this keeps up I'll have several on the block to finance one Or 2 med. scales. Cause I really need a fiver. The Ibby BTB33 looks interesting. Dr. Says nothing to see on X-rays, common at your age (63) I say BS. I've never injured them, just woke up one day messed up. Now the feet are killing me and stopping my daily walks. And course it's that wonderful time year allergy season. Despite all my pain I feel like a rat in a cage... Hum sounds like a good name for a song. On the bright side it's raining like crazy and we've broken the all time record for most rain by a long shot with no end in sight. That's saying something for Oregon. Oh wait was that the bright side? If anybody needs a bass look through my profile I could put a price on almost anything. Wow just like a meeting, spilling makes me feel a little better even if for but a moment. I'm not so angry anymore, I guess it's more kind of like resigned and tired. That's getting old is just so tiring. Ok too tired to type, have a great night all.

First the bad news:
An old work injury (rotator cuff) is acting up PLUS I recently did something bad to my knee which has already had two surgeries. Nothing life threatening, but painful and extremely distracting to the daily enjoyment of life. So it looks like a trip to back to the USA for treatment (surgery I guess) and R&R for a couple of months. I have Medicare so it makes sense financially to travel rather than have it done here.

Now the good news:
My best friend of 45 years has offered to put me (and then a little later my wife and daughter will come) up at his home while I recover. It just so happens he is an awesome keyboard player whom I have worked with on many many bands and projects over the decades. So, depending on my limitations, while I am recovering, we will be "getting the band back together" because we have recently got in touch with an amazing drummer who we played with back then. That was the WILD and CRAZY days LOL. Now all three of us are fat GOF's but we are all playing better than ever!

Another feature is my 15 year old daughter who is showing great promise as a songwriter/performer will be working on her stuff with us.
Shameless promo: Check out "Ayessa -Day I met You" on YouTube, her first effort.

He had been responding very well to chemo, stalled now at 80% reduction of remaining tumors. They estimate 2 years on the outside. I suggested a change in venue might be an option if their efforts have reached their limits.
Does that mean 20% left or 80%? I agree, don't let the b@st@rds get him down, try try again.
If I may, not to offend you, but I say a quick prayer that if it's His Will that he may make a full recovery.

Some tumors have been eradicated, but the remaining shrunk down to 20% of their starting size and stalled there. They are in the central lymphatic system. He has kept an amazing outlook so far. Support from family and friends have been a huge help to him. I took a pic sitting on his bike looking over the handlebars with the tach around 2500. His daughter blew that pic up and in the bad times he looks at that and imagines himself riding.

When I was young, I would stupidly look down my nose at some old fart, thinking how backward and washed-up he was. Didn't have a clue that he had something on the inside. I apologize for the times I thought that. The good news turned out to be that, even though the body is no longer able...the spirit is willing and most of us really haven't changed that much unless something forced us to. So, to all the young punks that are not reading this right now...go F#&% yourself!!!

Dearly departed coworker had a sign on his wall that read something like:

"Healthcare: A process that only delays the inevitable."

Sadly, while I got along with him very well, he ignored the advice of his own sign and got run over by a drunk when he was out riding his bike. Not a real bike, but the type where you peddle it along. Only after that, I found out he was a loner after his mother died. He honorably kept and cared for her in is home. After that he had a GF, but they only went out together on occasion. Us at work and her finally found 2nd cousins and I have no idea what happened to the estate. I look back at that loss with great sadness, because I could have, would have and should have gone to lunch with him once in a while, invited him to our place for dinner, or had a beer or two after work. But never, ever, ever go bicycle riding with him. He was the anhydrous ammonia expert for the state and had great stories of how the meth heads/cooks or whatever would do to steal the ammonia from farmers.

I hope they get good at replacing disks in the spine, especially the neck, because I have the spine of a 90 year old. All other joints hurt sometimes except for a few like ankles and knees, but they will... That's not why I'm grumpy though; I put forth some serious effort!

I'm on the pain meds now and forgot where I was going with the last post. I consider myself lucky that one thing my dad pounded through my thick skull was not only to respect my elders, but to learn from their wisdom. That I have done here at TB. I seriously owe BassmanPaul a tall, tall beer for his guidance and advice, and replies with just a smiley :D sometimes, when he could have said STFU, google it, or use the search option, as many people tend to do to newbs on a forum. So, THANK YOU PAUL. And guess what, just got a tracking number for a delivery from San Diego on TUESDAY :D :D :D

What's the age cutoff to be a grumpy old fart? Or is it an attitude? If the latter, sign me up :D

+1 from me. I'll be 64 in Sept and so far so good. I do bruise easily though.

Passing mid 40's with experience in "mid-life crisis" is a good qualifier. Not a set in stone age limit if the obvious disappointment in the aging body obviously manifests itself.

Heck I just hit the 60's last August. I had two lumbar discs replaced a couple years ago. I have full function of the legs and feet again, only occasional pins and needles now, but nerve pain is still ever present and the screws in the spine are adding to discomfort (can't afford to get them removed). I also have a couple thoracic discs that have gotten much worse now that I can actually carry some weight again (and the lumbar fusion increased the strain on them), weight limit because of this is 50lbs short term (<5 minutes) 20lbs long term. Don't expect the pain killers will be left behind (I hoped they would), but at least you'll get some of your life back.

I'm going into my 4th month with a frozen shoulder. If any of ya'all have got any advice, tips, suggestions etc. I'd be forever grateful. My friend told me his sis had this for over a year and that scares me.

My wife's a nurse. I'll ask her if she's knows about it. Otherwise, Mayo has a lot of good information on all sorts of condiions:

Invalid Link Removed (search results)

Frozen shoulder Treatments and drugs - Mayo Clinic (treatments)

Shoulder exercises - Mayo Clinic (excercises)

Frozen shoulder - Mayo Clinic (general info. The treatments link is the middle of another general info article, so you might also want to look that one over from the beginning Frozen shoulder - Mayo Clinic )

I sure hope yours is under control soon. Is there a lot of pain?

I'm a young puppy relative to some here, but strive to compensate with extreme grumpiness.

Ajapses, if they could f@$! themselves, they would be off doing that all day instead of on TB! :D
Yeah...I got a little tore up thinking about B's friend and the bike pic.
Several years ago, my pastor asked if I'd go with him to visit some shut-ins. We ended up in a old gals house that was taking care of her aunt and uncle- both in their nineties. The old guy was nice, but not really there. Two weeks later, they found him in a ditch on the side of a highway- battered, but otherwise OK. All he was trying to do was get home so he could sleep in his own bed. He passed on shortly after that.
To this day, I regret not doing something to give the old guy something he wanted that badly. They say the worst hurt is remembering what might have been. I believe it.
