Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I'm going into my 4th month with a frozen shoulder. If any of ya'all have got any advice, tips, suggestions etc. I'd be forever grateful. My friend told me his sis had this for over a year and that scares me.
I know it sounds a little off the wall but if you've spent any amount of time hiking in the woods up there in Oregon I would have a complete diagnostic for Lyme disease. I don't have it but a couple of my friends do and are always suffering from sort of spontaneous joint pain especially in the shoulders and feet and ankles plus fatigue which ebbs and flows but never goes away and doesn't show up in any x-rays or anything. Jim

Hang in Paul the science now is pretty incredible, they'll patch you up good as new!. Thanks BadExample for the links I'll check them out. I haven't checked in here in almost 2 wks. I should be ashamed of Bitchen about my frozen shoulder but hey it hurts like a sob. Out of 20 basses I only have one 32" scale and a Mikro I don't like, too small. But that's all I can play now. My gal got a full knee replacement and two months out she's doing great. And like bob young I too bought new P's for $250. Those were the days. I'm learning to live in the here and now cause if I don't I'll go crazy! Haha oh wait too late. Five years ago I nearly died, long story, but it's taken me this long to get over the depression, stop dwelling on the chronic pain and decide to soldier on with a positive attitude without ANY self medicating. Very interesting being completly clean and sober for a year and a half. And Diggin it too!

Passing mid 40's with experience in "mid-life crisis" is a good qualifier. Not a set in stone age limit if the obvious disappointment in the aging body obviously manifests itself.

Heck I just hit the 60's last August. I had two lumbar discs replaced a couple years ago. I have full function of the legs and feet again, only occasional pins and needles now, but nerve pain is still ever present and the screws in the spine are adding to discomfort (can't afford to get them removed). I also have a couple thoracic discs that have gotten much worse now that I can actually carry some weight again (and the lumbar fusion increased the strain on them), weight limit because of this is 50lbs short term (<5 minutes) 20lbs long term. Don't expect the pain killers will be left behind (I hoped they would), but at least you'll get some of your life back.
IMHO 50lbs. is too much to lift for anyone who has had back surgery for any amount of time. It's only because I absolutely refuse to lift anything over 20 lbs that I've been able to avoid surgery and not be on any kind of pain meds. I had to change jobs, I sold a very expensive road bike, I sold all of my heavy bass gear, I sold a perfectly fine Sire 5 string bass because the neck profile is so much thicker than any other bass I've owned it was aggravating a bulging disc in my neck unlike any other bas I've ever owned or played. My mantra is pretty simple, if any thing I do in life causes me physical pain, I quit doing it, no matter how much I like it, because I can always find something else to do which causes no pain. I'm 63, not on any meds, have had no surgeries since I broke my arm twice when I was a kid. It's not an easy discipline , but I'm just hyper aware of not doing anything my body is telling me not to do anymore. I just accepted the fact that I have a compromised back and neck and I live my life around that reality knowing it's never going to be like it was and am aware of the limits and then let the body sort of work it's own way back to a sort of balance between what "I" want and what "It" can do, it's kind of like a dance of give and take between my consciousness self and my physical self. Medical science is even starting to find that the body can fight off cancer by using it's own ability to kill cancer cells without harming the neighboring cells around the tumors, a spin off of stem cell research and could possibly replace chemo therapy in the future and is already being used in some controlled trials with patients. For all of us Boomers who are entering the late Fall or early Winter of our lives we could be seeing some major breakthroughs in medical care in the next couple of years. So don't give up hope, the mind /body connection is real, thoughts are things. Of course IMHO, YMMD, and all that jazz:cool: Jim

From the bottom of my, albeit flakey, heart I thank you for you good wishes. I really appreciate the lift your encouragement gave me. God bless you all!!

Dear Paul, I think the flakey issue will be behind you soon, and God WILL bless you. All I ate yesterday was fish and I prayed for your health and to ease the minds of you and your family.

I will also strive to drink your share of the beer until you are better. No sacrifice is too large!

Hope you're well and holding the groove in the pocket, @BassmanPaul.

I was thinking about things that get my goat, in preparation for requesting a number in the GOF club. But now I realize that I have absolutely nothing to be grumpy about!

But, dang it, that don't stop me from getting P.O.'d whenever one of the myriad modern idiocies strike. Before retirement I could move on by getting back to work on something else. Now I dwell on it too much. But don't get me started!

So, yeah,, gimme a number, will ya?

What? Who called me?

Oh yeah
#122 G-Dog

And Paul, thinking about you every day sending best wishes!

How about the story of when I went to the surplus sale back in the (probably) early 1980's down in either Corona of Fullerton, Fender was selling off parts by the pound, including 55 gallon drums full of transformers, parts stuffed terminal boards, etc. I also watched as a pile of Rhodes Chroma keyboards got smashed up by a forklift as there was no be no more Rhodes Chromas. The whole day was pretty mind blowing actually.
Not sure to like this or not! Damn it, I'm giving up bass for time machine engineering…
fnord!

Just got my new Audiokineses H1203 yesterday, playing with it today. What a tone monster! Incredible sounding. Is it odd that I'm inspired to play more/better over a new cab? Anyway, pretty amazing cab. I highly recommend to for old farts! 25 pounds of dynamite. I imagine two cabs and a 500-1,000 wattt head could cover most shows including small concerts and definitely almost all clubs. Sorry about the rant, kind of excited here! :hyper:
THis is why this is a Pure Amp/Cab thread!
So, I begin to research said cab… become smarter (in relation to time passage/like grass growing in the lawn) become grumpy old fart #95 in present (NOW), which becomes the PAST milliseconds later and we all know the past influences the future (karma, et. al.). But, for reals: what make the tone a monster to you?
f! gassing

If it makes you fell better, I finally have a rig that weighs less than me... and I'm a skinny little runt.

OMG! And happy almost-99th-birthday, @BadExample! I would try to wait the few days until your actual birthday, but my memory ain't what it used to was. :)

E-gads, I thot I got rid of that. It was a dumb thing to do. I'm 52. I started a habit of making me 100 years old after a year on a forum a long time ago. I did that because one of the hobby forums I was on blew up and we all lost our join date. Not real important, but it helps me remember how long an obsession has gone on. I'm sorry to mislead you. I thought I had it hidden. I'll have to get with an admin and set it right. I am open and honest and I find this embarrassing!

I wish everyone a GRUMPY Easter. Have we forgotten our moral standards? What were thinking!?!?!?

Just finished mowing grass for the first time this year and everything hurts but my bollocks!

Then I realized I left my drills at work Friday, and the back door that I have a key to has been tampered with and I can't get in. Off to the !@#$ tool store for a junk drill motor.

"I'm going into my 4th month with a frozen shoulder. If any of ya'all have got any advice, tips, suggestions etc. I'd be forever grateful. My friend told me his sis had this for over a year and that scares me." this is not my quote

EEEK !!....say I.

I posted Looong ago, but now I'm breaking down full force LOL ! sold my big rig ( 75lbs total) for a small combo (22lbs).... and now I have to get shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff and torn bicep tendon..... my right shoulder.... I'm right handed..... I'm pulling all my stuff together before I get the knife.... new (Link Removed) and getting stocked up from the dispensary.
I'm grumpy as hell, I yell at kids in the pool as if I actually had something to do with the pool here in my apt. complex. (it's a sad state that may even bring jail time for me.. for taking photos of the kids for the cops.
I guess now, at 64, I qualify for a number ??
