That's a Bonham thing. A friend of mine was in a band years ago who's drummer had a huge kick drum. Image is everything in certain circles.What about the 'marching' kick drum?

My luthier buddy does have a nice laser rig, so stranger things may yet happen!
Is that area below the bridge where the flux capacitor plugs into?

I'll take a few pics later today. The first brass one was made by a friend way back in the day. The chrome one is most likely a Dunlop lap steel bar. The new ones are 5/8" bar stock from onlinemetals.com, who will cut to length and shipped within one day in my case. I have a lot more materials in mind, but one has to start somewhere and I just kind of threw a few darts.
Another big factor in all this is the bass itself, of course. My luthier friend clearly thought I was nuts, but he did deliver a perfect set of custom wound pickups for my new fretless last year and he's coming around to the idea of doing something from a white sheet next time.

Funny old thing, then, what with me buying a brass slide for my brand new bass in 79. And absolutely with Phil in mind.

Definitely planning on trying some different woods, but tubular ones just haven't been my jam so far.

I liked Tubular Bells until I saw The Exorcist. Didn't play that album much more after that.

On a lighter note, any bassist (myself included) who's covered "Heard It On the X" in a trio, has had to learn to work some slide bass, right over the pickups to boot.
