The NY Beatlefest has been postponed due to corona. My meetings and conferences that were to take place in March and April have been cancelled. Flights and hotel bookings are a no go. A lot of business is being lost.

Airlines bid on auctioned gates at airports. If they don’t use them, they can loose the rights for the year. In europe they call it the 80/20 rule. You must use the gate 80% of the allotted time or loose it. So airlines are flying “ghost” flights with no passengers just to keep the rights to the gates. EU lawmakers are trying to suspend the law during the virus related slow times so that flights can be cancelled with no penalty. In the mean time a major UK regional feeder airline, Flybe, went bankrupt last week. This will have a chain reaction.

Both are correct but after we conquer Carona, the world economy will be stronger. The short term issue is trying to deal with the many displacements that will inevitably happen. That is where we need leaders who can simultaneously think in short and long term modes.

And the "it's not the flu" thing turned an ordinary journey for my ring into an odyssey.

In our last episode, my ring embarked on its trip to where it was created in northern Italy for an upgrade. It went to Denver, and on to England, where it is hanging out this moment at Glastonbury Tor. Its intended route took it through Milan, presently on lockdown.

Now the ring turns around and is on its way to Mt. Shasta, where it will be turned over to another friend on her way back to its birthplace. Should see it back on my finger end-of-May - start-of-June.

With my foot surgery now at least two months away, since we have to start all over again ...

The change in the economy the toll of the Black Death produced many, many practitioners of law. Already legally complex estates required decades of legal proceedings to iron out with no unclear lines to heirs. A good case could mean a lifetime of work for a lucky barrister.

Italy is hard hit. Germany has dire predictions. Even if the ring gets to the shop there may be no hands to work on it.

Last week the UPS guy said he was worried about delivering to people. I’m expecting a delivery tomorrow, we’ll see how that goes. It was overnighted two days ago.

:laugh: You reminded me of the chapter in "Life on the Mississippi" where the steam boat captain is lying to Mark Twain about the alligator boats. :laugh:

...and doubly glad alligator gar fish are not on the Christmas dinner table in any culture I'm aware of ....
