When I had my 66 EB-3, I just used what I could get-and cut off a lot of 'extra' string. I don't remember seeing SS strings back then. Didn't know the 'ball end' trick. I'll keep it in mind if I get an EB-0 in the(distant)future.

On the off-chance that other people are wrestling with similar issues, I'd just like to point out that hobby tubing is wonderful stuff. Available in brass and aluminum, it comes in all sorts of small diameters that are useful for this sort of thing, and it's pretty affordable.
It has the advantage that it's only a moment's work to make custom spacers in any length that suits your fancy.
Hobby shops aren't as common as they once were, but any place that offers model aircraft and/or train supplies will typically stock it. K-S brand is the one that I'm familiar with:

I’m still trying to figure out how old you have to be to sing the blues. Are bands with younger members blues worthy? Many seem to be relegated to performing blues covers.

The keyboardy thing on my tabletety thing has been dying for some while. Not wholly unsurprising given that it, like its owner, has a lot of miles. Many adventures recorded here through this thing (you notice even pictures of lights on your computer use real electricity) than I can rightly recall. Now on this tabletety thing with an external keyboard propped up on its keyboard while
while the desktop I spec'd way beyond my needs at the time and built myself gets a new monitor. Found one I was certain I'd be happy with, what with a webcam and all, until it arrived. Defective, RMA, they're out of stock, I get a refund so
So shipping the monitor back and purchased a different webcam 23 inch monitor for when I begin the dreary tasks of bringing the computer up for the first time in three or four years because

What a lot of running around for naught today

Computer problems are always a headache. You depend on the things so issues cause disruptions.
I have a wonky iPad, that’s what I use here. The keyboard makes mistakes and misses characters, images a difficult to make out, the colors are all off. Can’t make out avatars. It’s a chore to use. The fix is to replace the screen but the cost of parts for an end of life pad is balanced by a much better performing new one coming out. I’ve been reading about the new model over the last year but it hasn’t materialized. Last word from Apple was end of this month.
I’d bet that the promised releases will be corona-delayed, not a good marketing time. Apple likes to kick everything off with a large auditorium full of people.
