He's probably a former stagehand who picked up the various bits of underclothing tossed onstage by women at Elvis and Tom Jones concerts.
He's been hoarding them ever since, and is about to cash in big and fulfill all his unfulfilled dreams.

A friend of mine used (maybe still does) those on his drums to dampen resonances. Really.
Like a tea towel over the drum.
The vintage ads for Tampax showed activitied such as surfing, riding bikes, and horseback riding.
I see no reason not to add percussionists and drummers to that list.

Along with tampons, tacos, t-bones, Ensure, (sounds like a helluva meal, no?) and a bevy of useful and wanted products.

On a semi-related (pun intended!) note, a few years after the relationships ended, I realized that my first two girlfriends were both truck driver's daughters.
I have no idea what Freud would have had to say about that...In the studio, in the 70's, we engineers went from taping wallets on tomtoms to using "maxipads".
Came with their own tape and stayed on forever.
Thank God, better made shells, and a generation of drummers who actually knew how to tune, let us finally open the gates and record their true glory.

If national quarantine and curfew was called then more people who were too stupid to protect themselves would have to obey the law and stay in.
