Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

My grandmother was a bluestocking.

None of my elder family finished high high school. You went to a certain grade then on to trade school. My grandmother finished the fourth grade, that qualified her to go on for one more year of specialized training to become a teacher. Life was simpler back then. Later in life, she did do a blue hair rinse.

The directives I read say that outdoor activities are okay as long as proper social distancing is observed. That means if you encounter other groups, you stay 6 feet away from them. So you can still take a bike ride or a walk.

My husband has been in the parks for the past three days (not continuously, LOL) and there are families out doing nature walks, etc.

Kids still hang out in packs, blocking the sidewalks, not moving for anyone. They aren’t used to being told NO. There isn’t any social distancing from what I can see from that age group. Some students were in the grocery store saying, if I’m going to die, I should eat and do whatever I want.

For some, walking in the park will wear thin quickly.

I heard that dogs are affected.

"Six feet away"

Mel Brooks couldn't have scripted this better. You know, portable cone of silence kind of things, only for viruses. First we have the Three Stooges on fire duty, now we have, um, whatever it we have here.

The Stooges understood enforcing social distancing from the bandstand too. We might have to revisit the hygienic aspect though.

Any grumpy old fart who does not lockdown voluntarily should be court ordered to do so and be restricted to a diet of carrots only :D

Sorry, some of us have to be "out there" driving the trucks that bring hand sanitizer and TP to your local outlet.
Along with tampons, tacos, t-bones, Ensure, (sounds like a helluva meal, no?) and a bevy of useful and wanted products.
Driving solo is equivalent to "mobile quarantine"! :)

In before the buzzer with congratulations!!
Have you now advanced a grade from GOF to GOG?

It’s been my experience that being a grandfather is the greatest gig ever.

I love it when the granddaughters make fun of my stupid jokes and when they laugh at my singing.

They also seem to trust my judgment and advice. Two years ago, my daughter decided to get divorced. Our eldest granddaughter had a bunch of questions and concerns that she brought to me. It made me feel good that she trusted Bampaw enough to come to me.

Much as horses and dogs seem to be excellent judges of human character, young children are, as well.
All three either like you or they don't. There is no ambivalence.
With GOF's, maybe they respect the fact that if you survived this long, you must have learned some things along the way.

So far we're not seeing that here, but I know it's happening in other areas. I think people where I live are taking it pretty seriously. It's sad for those who aren't; they'll be carrying it back to their families and will be the in the bulk of the first wave of casualties when things get bad. But if they won't take precautions I'm not sure what else can be done for them.

I heard an unfortunate news story last night, concerning an American family that has lost six members, of varying generations, to this virus.
I believe DeRusso was the surname. Seems one member had contact with a carrier (the carrier later died, as well) and unknowingly brought it amongst his relatives at a family gathering. They have lost octagenarians and twenty-somethings, within days of one another. Horrible.
They deserve our prayers.
Airborne infectious diseases are insidious killers.
The ninjas of death, indeed.
