Actually I had you in mind when I posted that. At least it doesn't have a "bulbous" headstock.

You nailed it, 1975 4001, he also has a 1974 4001S, maybe that yellow one on the wall? I had a nice fireglo '75 4001.

My FG was from July '73 (a friend in Philly has it, now). Toaster; CB; Grover Slimlines that I sold to an RRFer a long time ago, and installed Hipshot Ultralites on the bass.

Something close. For some reason, out of nowhere this weekend I got it in my head to tear up a 42 year old wall-to-wall carpet. The company that I worked for at the time bought it when I relocated to another city. It felt good to finally break all ties with that company.

Sounds like the installer was paid by the staple. I sometimes think that when I’m removing an old speaker grille cloth. Eventually I learnt to use a heavy duty staple remover.

Today I’m inflicting pain by regrouting some bathroom wall tiles. So far I have four blisters from using dental scraping tools to remove old grout. You’d think that I’d use the dremel grout bit that I bought and can’t find.

Have you ever noticed that most musicians are very poor dancers?

I know I qualify. I owe it to the fact that I was always on stage and not on the dance floor. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Especially the bass players who would stand behind the drummer if they could.

Leland Sklar tells a story of an early gig where they were playing at a school. The principal saw him with his long hair and wouldn't let him perform on stage. He did the gig standing behind a curtain. For some players, that would be just fine.

Yes, thanks, you posted that link originally.
The 4001S is hanging on the wall in the video in a few shots, it's kind of yellowish, no binding, that's how I knew the difference.

I wonder if the yellowish color is the lighting and a mapleglo finish. I like my '88 mapleglo 4003S. Kind of looks a mellow yellow.

It has a narrow neck like a JBass. Feels good to play. I did a capacitor mod years ago that make it like a vintage. The only thingthat nags me is the pickups. They are the high output ones. I always wonder if I should try lower output scatterwound vintage set. I can unwind the ones that I have but don’t want to let that genie out of that bottle. I doubt that the magnets are the same. It would be an expensive experiment.

Anyone have any opinions on vintage vs modern Rickenbacker pickups?

There was a guy that played the spoons as a busker downtown for a couple of decades. He eventually retired but not without lawsuits with the city over the years. Tourists loved him, locals maybe not so much. It was a loud clacking when you walked by.

Most buskers come and go. They show up in the city for the summer and leave when the cold comes. Some are there full time year after year and do it as a day job. They busk and sell their CD’s. One guy is an amazing guitar player that can outplay anyone that I’ve seen. He effortlessly shreds through long days, I don’t know how he can physically do it.

There are a range of players. To get a permit, they have to audition. Some classical players as well. Wish that saxophonists would learn how to control their piercing volume. Not good when you pass by on the sidewalk.
