Thank you, friend. The last month with this has been a wild ride on top of all the COVID stuff. This little guy was something special. I forgot to mention this, but he's the only dog I've ever had who would cry actual tears when he thought you were mad at him. For as crazy and scrappy as he was, he was sensitive in equal measure. This is a tough one.
They do cry, and feel every emotion that you do, including love.
Have been away from this thread for months because: limited time in my life, I am grumpy and an F but seeing myself as old has been a struggle( mostly because emotionally can still pretend to be 17) but when I recieved the welcome packet from AARP- I guess that seals the deal; n'est ce pas?

I am refusing them for another 8 years and forwarding to my 73 yr-old parents- who are more active than me at times

You’re 52 and your parents are 73. 1968 was a swinging time for young people. Many of that era like to be active and relive their youth. At least, those who can.

It's a senior privilege to be able to order a half portion at 80 percent of the full portion price. And not finish it.
My folks were pretty standard f upor that time- startes college- Mom left for unknown(to this day) reaasons, Dad enjoyed social lide more than studying so he joined the Navy before the draft board put him in the infantry. They married before he took extended tours. We moved from VT to Newport, RI while he was stationed there. We did not follow to Coronado or Subic Bay, Phillipines.

My wife and I generally find one menu item we can both live with, and ask for an extra plate.
A lot of chefs hate to send out skimpy-looking plates, so they give us the half-portion of the entree that we wanted in the first place (at this age, I couldn't eat a 20 ounce steak to save my life), plus piles of extra vegetables, etc., to improve the visual presentation.
Essentially two and a half servings for the price of one...

Your mom finding comfort in her faith is a good thing. My Irish grandmother made sure that I was an alter boy. The penguins at school ruled with a wooden pointer. There’s a lot of truth in this scene.

I sometimes see a guy delivering morning papers. In a long block, he has two subscribers. He delivers for two newspapers. I used to have a subscription but switched to a digital one at some point many years ago. The iPad really helped kill the broadsheet. I dropped the digital subscription when news services offered free web sites. The only paper I buy now is a weekly country rag. Still feels nice to hold a newspaper.

The entire point of a tabloid newspaper (as explained to me) is to be easy to read on public transit. The content in a tabloid is similarly considered.
The problem with publishing to a multiplicity of devices is any notion of typographical standards is as dead as a really tired metaphor. Type has a voice. Apple gave typography to the unwashed masses and the result is Souvenir.

Apple also killed the music store with iTunes. Some say that they saved the music business with another revenue source. Now iTunes is dead, streaming is in.
Recently Apple introduced AppleNews. A subscription based digital clearing house for papers and magazines. Even better, they will determine what articles you should read. They want to control what we think, do, and say. We don’t have to wait till the year 3535.
