My knowledge of Sooke is that it is on the eastern side of Vancouver Island, not far from Victoria but more closer to Georgia Strait (Straight) than the "ocean side" of Vancouver Island. Georgia Strait (Straight) is between Vancouver Island and the mainland, not on the western (ocean) side, as I recall.

When I say ocean side, I mean not on the mainland side. On the Juan De Fuca Straight overlooking the USA. That’s apparently 11-17 miles wide.

I’ve never been there but the pictures look nice. They take comfort in being able to see the mountains in Washington state.

One of the options for that book is spiral bound, so maybe not.

I have this one. It’s pretty thick at 1100 pages. Problem is, the text is too small for me to see without magnifier reading glasses.

When I heard When I'm Sixty-Four at the age of 11, I had absolutely no correct — or even close to correct — idea how I would be at 64. Was none too happy to turn 30, watching the Challenger kaboom on my birthday. And that very day calculated I'd be working longer than I'd already lived before "retirement". The only reason I went in to work that day is because if I didn't, the work I didn't complete would still be waiting for me the next day. Never in all my days did the elves come in as I slept to do my unfinished work. A little glad of that, because I'd probably find a bunch of shoes in my office. Shoes that don't fit. Or shoes my grandmother wouldn't wear because they are too frumpy.

An aside: at that particular Borders, we saw a free unannounced Janis Ian concert in one of the smaller collections rooms. Also, same Border, we sat in on an Al Kooper interview, very inte'westing.

At a Borders closer to where I live (once again, now defunct; the Borders, not my home!), we saw an intimate solo classical guitar show by Steve Hackett!

Oh, here's the interior of the new porch, laying on our living room floor, just itching to be nailed up, which is in progress as I write this (day three now, more tomorrow).

About $2000.00 worth of poplar, plus some leftover red oak and quarter sawn white oak that we are incorporating into the project.

The big pile on the left is our ceiling, the one on the right is the V-groove wall paneling, and in between is primarily, window and door casing.

The 2 1/4" quarter sawn/rift sawn mix of flooring is in a big pile in the bedroom adjacent to the porch.

That's the width of the floorboards, not the thickness. It is 3/4" thick solid, not engineered flooring.

Do the carpenters bring the nails to the party?

Almost enough.............. They even used heavy duty stainless steel staples to install the outside and inside sheathing!

I see the tongue and groove. ¾” thick harks back to a time when they did things properly.

Thinking of schlepping that woodpile upstairs hurts my back.

I was expecting two packages today. I called in the morning to confirm that they will indeed arrive today. The answer was, yes! So I arrange to stay home and wait. Checking the tracking, there's now an exception. The notice says that the packages will be delayed, because of .... a delay. No further details. Seems that covid gives then the license to pull whatever stunt they want. The get out of jail card is covid. So now the scheduled delivery date is undetermined. Not tomorrow. Not Monday. Whenever they want.

Sign me, Grump on simmer.
