I got out of the house for the first time today in over three months except for two little short ten minute trips on foot. My wife and I went to another part of Lima called Mira Flores in a Taxi to a big park and then a mall called Larco Mar. Masks are mandatory in this country and restaurants are still closed except for take out. We left the mall quickly as it was very boring and went to a supermarket to buy some food to go and then back to the park to eat it. You can't eat in public we found out but we did manage to scarf most of it down before we got busted by the Serenazgo who are kind of like rent a cops who work full time for the city, they were very nice about it though. I had brought my phone and my Kindle to get a little reading done but my glasses kept fogging up because of the mask. All in all it was nice getting out for a few hours though.

We were someplace on top of that cliff in that part of the park, There's a restaurant called Buena Vista that's right at the edge of it with outside tables but that's closed too. I think this is an old picture because the park is really long, probably two or three miles now and is really nice. Those two big buildings behind the park are hotels, One's a Sheraton I believe.

It’s nice to be able to go out again. I ran some errands in the car this afternoon. Spent six hours in gridlock, mostly in city road construction. It was nuts.

Went to Home Depot, there was no covid distancing in the isles. The place was pretty full. Got a sheet of baltic birch at a wood store, it was on sale. There was a line outside the pasta store but it went quickly, only two shoppers in the shop at any time. Lots of people everywhere, many are on vacation.

I found that a KFC on the way home is being torn down. Haven’t been there in years but intended to go today. There aren’t many of these places left.

Outdoor pools, health clubs, as well as bars opened today. The Apple store nearby has reopened. All have tight restrictions. Parks were packed. Younger people seem to have no problem being in crowds. Older friends have changes, some older ones that are at risk now live like hermits.

I fear that covid is going to re-imerge.

I hafta take an amp along with my bass; can't use my 67 THUNDERBIRD(my number 1)'cos the bandstand is very tight, the $ is a joke, the place has minimal AC[this is southeast FL],and we're s'posed to wear masks in this county. A small room with even one potentially infected patron would worry me. Not all masks can filter the particle size of a virus. It can pass through like wind through a screen door. Is it worth the risk?

First noticed a cashier who apparently just didn't bother fitting her mask properly. When you're paid minimum wage to stand on your feet all day pushing buttons and making change, guessing the motivation to give a hoot is pretty low.

There’s the official policy and then there’s what the workers do. I got a memo for one office building that I frequent outlining all their covid policies and protections. The building maintenance workers and security are all supposed to wear masks and face shields. Never seen it. Continuous cleaning of common areas and elevators. Never seen it. It doesn’t leave me feeling confident in their care.

The salon I visited on re-opening (yes I feel good grooming is an essential part of well-being) is stricter than the hospital. I had my temperature taken at both to gain admission, but the salon rules required I wash my hands before taking a chair.

My city has roadway signs about gatherings, masks, washing hands etc, all over the place. Most stores have signs to mask up or stay out.

Went for takeout last night. Local lowrider car club having a meet in the parking lot. No masks, no gloves, standing shoulder to shoulder, sweaty in the 100+ degree weather.
Communal cooler, passing joints.

Laughing at ME, as I get out of the car masked, gloved. Asked me what I'm afraid of, as I Clorox wipe the bag down before I put it into the paper lined milk crate in the back of my car.

I look at them solemnly, and state:

Me : Stupid People?

Car club dude: you mean me, gringo?

Me: No, you look smart to me, you visiting your mom for the fourth?

CCD: Yeah for sure! Big gathering EVERY YEAR at mom's the family and the friends all get together at the ranch . (Tells me the name and location)
And this year it's going to be off the hook bro!

Me: Hope your mom makes it next year, the world has changed, nothing is certain. Have a nice day.


I rolled on.
Stopped and got a Monster energy at the Flying J truck stop about a mile away, Everyone is masked. Gloves .
I pickup my 2 for 1 cans, wipe them with another wipe.

Who's in line in front of me?
City police.
I ask them politely:
Are you guys hungry? You should really check out the xxxx restaurant.
Looks like quite the party right now
Hint hint .

They replied sounded good, big crowd?
I said yes. Line out the door. Standing room only.

They paid, and jogged to their cruiser.

I roll towards home, passing the takeout place, which looks like every L.E. in the area got invited to the party.

Man people just don't understand do they?

Same here and I had to use them constantly when working, you have to wash your hands with soap and water after every few times to get the stuff off your hands.
