Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Almost correct. A Rumble 100c was at the top of the list. But I had to take my 13 year old dog in for some dental work today that'll cost me over $1K, so I'll need to rebuild the reserves for a bit.

I remember those days well...at least back then my wife and I were working but $3K bills for rescue dogs hit hard. Being retired, we down-sized and only have stray cat that my wife insisted on taking in. Fortunately this creature has been healthy, and so far and stays out of my way ;).

I swear, just like dry cleaning and laundering women's clothing, women's haircuts are a racket extraordinaire. Since my barber retired many years ago I couldn't find anyone I liked, so I started going to Mrs. Tango's hairdresser, who also does men's hair (duh). My hair is easy, being straight and well-behaved. It takes her no more than 20 minutes to cut, and some of that is chit-chat. I don't do the salon shampoo thing. It's not a horrible price, even for $$$ suburban Washington, D.C., but my entire clipper kit (home quality, with accessories, by a good company) was only $10 more than I pay for one cut. I'm way ahead now, and don't know that I'll ever get it cut in the salon again. In contrast, Mrs. Tango went to the lady's home Saturday, sat out on the sundeck and got her hair only cut, nothing else (again, easy straight hair). $90 plus tip. Three times what I pay. That's just not right, to me.
I've been cutting my own hair since 1990. Free, free, free, free...

I hear complaining about $18 haircuts

My hair was mid-back until one "inspired creation" later. The first abyss is to shoulders, the mid-back is the great abyss to properly long. And it's not something I can do myself, I learned.

Pet veterinary insurance is a growing busine$$.

I had pet insurance once. Once...

This is how a .105 string seats in the nut.

Looks pretty tight to me, but probably just fine. The call of flatwounds on this semi-hollowbody was too great to resist. And settled in with the LB Low Tension Flats with the .100. Or they settled in. We're settled in, it's the Thing That's Going Around.

In popular culture it's held all mens' haircuts are either Moe, Larry, or Curly. And in no position to dispute that.

In the 70's, my hair was almost mid-back. Of course, back in those olden days, it was common for gents to have long hair.

In these moderm times, there is no way I would want to deal with long hair.

With some basses, you can flip the nut as you described. No problem with a bass with a zero fret in place.

But with a bass with a nut cut like below, flipping the nut will not give optimal results. Ideally, you want a new nut where the weight bearing edge is at the front (fingerboard side). One issue, with this nut flipped, the intonation would be off by almost the width of the nut.

Thanks @beans-on-toast . Over the years of flipping nuts (lol) from lefty to righty I've kind of gotten the gist of it. I can get one carved down pretty close. I like the angled shave you demo'ed on the illustration. On the SR1200L I just bought, luckily I found out that Tusq makes a special string nut for that bass, and it cost me $23 including shipping USPS. That one will just drop in with the correct depth of cuts. Still liking the bass though!

Blowfryer.

Ever been accused of involvement in a minor, but highly noticeable, hair incident at a candlelight church service? Fortunately not recently
Well, and you know what choir singers think about such goings-on.

Exactly. Paroxysmal guffaws into their folders, all the while trying to comport themselves in a dignified, respectful manner. Some of the biggest laughs I've ever had were in the choir stalls, and they were all the more delicious for the fact that we shouldn't be acting like that in church! All this as an adult, mind you.
