I am going to install new Custom Shop '62 Pickups in my Fender MIM P Bass this weekend. I never soldered before so I was checking out some How-To videos. When I watched this one, it brought back memories of high school projectors. I swear I could smell the dust burning on the projector bulb when I watched this. This was made in 1980 so I would have been a junior in HS.

Good luck with your soldering. As I recall, those pickups don’t have the shielded wire that many pickups do so it makes the job easier. Clean up any excess flux with isopropyl alcohol. Watch that you don’t get any solvent on your instrument’s finish.

Truly clean work there.

I've come to learn to look first in any video like this to see if it's four or five strings. Five strings throw me off when I'm looking to see what they're doing. I know it's only fourths, but still. grumble. Five strings.

Brings back memories. We used to do that in a band I was in during the 70's. Yes, I played that unison riff with the trumpet player and keyboard man. TBH, since the keyboard had a 'bass' section, I didn't go up the octave in the middle.(we'd worked it out that it sounded fuller if I stayed down-there were 4 of us)

If my GOF memory serves, MarkBass and @biguglyman aren't BFFs either. What I heard (as an Elf player) is the probability any bass player here owns both an Elf and a MarkBass is effectively Zero.

My "today" roster includes a Zoom hootenanny. And in this, a problem to be resolved.

The Senn headset I use is great for all this high-falutin' videoconferencing we do here in the future. It's Bluetooth, so I can take Odin out just by turning off my video and never lose track of the convo. The downside is it's unsuitable for an instrument and voice. In part, because it's a closed back design and I can't actually hear myself play very well unless I'm using them as a monitor. If I use the headset as a monitor from the DAW, I can't use the voice ....

I recenty switched to using Spotify instead of YouTube, and started really enjoying listening to music again. I never really wanted to see how the sausage is made all that much, unless I'm in the room while it's happening of course.

All manner of Da Funk going on to-day, and happy to have gone back to sleep. There are days in life when it is best to go back to sleep, and today earns it. The disentangled version of this tale is we managed to coordinate a virtual meeting of friends in Ireland, South Africa, England, continental EU, the States, and Australia.

Happened to notice footage from a hot dog factory superimposed on what amounts to a free green screen as someone speaks in front of a big famous house. BTSOM!
