Nor I, lass, nor I. Lotsa dead ones in the dresser drawer.

The two dearly departed timepieces are a Movado and a Gucci.

When one's entire career, nay, life, is predicated on newspaper deadlines, may these timepieces rest easy having earned their keep. And while I've seen many a late press start — indeed more than I wish to have seen — the essential understanding in my employement agreement is summed as if the paper doesn't go to press on your watch, you walk in the morning. And this is how it comes to be that one learns to welcome boredom with open arms.

I haven't worn one since the wristband of my last one re-infected me with poison ivy ten or more years ago...
That made me think of something, I didn’t get poison ivy this year. I had it the previous 3-4 years. I guess I got most of it cleaned up in the side yard I purchased.

The fence was repaired and painted this summer too.

A veritable sylvan glade! Looks relaxing.

Grab a drink folks , this is gonna be a long one.
Seeing all the clocks and watches a page or so back reminded me of this story dating back to the mid 70's.
I was working for a sewer and drain cleaning company at the time. We used little snakes , big snakes , bigger snakes and for the really tough jobs , we had a hydro-jet machine that pumped out several steams of water at clogs at 1200 pounds per square inch. This was for big lines in the street with really nasty clogs. We were jetting a line and among the other treasures that came out of it was a Timex watch. Remember the old "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking" commercials? (Of course we do 'cause we are Grumpy old farts.)
At any rate , we wound it up and low and behold , it started running. The boss was ecstatic. "I'm going to send this into Timex and be on T.V." Into a box with a rather long letter of explanation the little watch went and was promptly mailed off to the Timex corp.
About three or four weeks later we were all in the shop one morning and a small package came in from said Timex corp. The boss could hardly contain himself. "This is it. I'm going to be famous. I'll be on T.V. and be able to retire." On and on he went for about ten minutes while looking for something sharp to open the box with. After watching him go bananas for a bit , I finally handed him my Buck Knife and he tore into the box. Inside was the watch and an envelope. "This is it , my ticket to fame and fortune." With breathless anticipation he opened the fateful envelope to be greeted with..............A bill for $16.75 for Cleaning out of warranty. I don't think I have ever seen anyone look so totally deflated in my life.

They were a great band, still active. Randy is a fantastic player. He lives on the west coat, one of his gigs is hosting a radio show on the CBC. He noodles on guitar and tells stories. It’s always interesting. He helped invent a sustainer called the Garnet Herzog. Basically a Fender Champ with a dummy load that plugs into the input of another amp. This is the sound on American Woman and many other songs. Tech21nyc offered a Herzog pedal.

Another example of the Herzog. Great sound.

Burt still performs, at one time touring with Ringo. At home he lives a quiet life in a Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. Not far from Saskatoon where Joni Mitchell lived.

When Joni hit the folk circuit in the early days, she went to Winnipeg with her husband Chuck where she met people like Randy and Neil Young at a club called the 4D. Stephen Stills, also on the folk circuit, met Neil there and was blown away by his band. They formed a lasting friendship.
