I've been saying it wrong. To quote...

As it turns out, IKEA isn't just a fun, Scandinavian word, it's actually an acronym—Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd. Decidedly less cool than IKEA, right? But it actually has a deeper meaning. The founder of IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad, lends his initials to the first two letters, while the "E" comes from the farm he grew up on, Elmtaryd, and the "A" from the Swedish village, Agunnaryd, where the farm was located. Pretty standard to name your company after yourself and the place you grew up.

So now that you know the story behind it, it's time to learn how to actually pronounce it. Rather than pronouncing it "eye-key-ah," as most of us do, you should be saying 'ee-kay-uh." This video below will show you how to say it correctly. Everything we thought we knew is a lie.

Oh yeah, testify brother, teach these heathens.

Hear my voice, this is Odin calling you
Times have changed, I'm a Gentlegod
No more war, just design of furniture
Master of IKEA
Just like Jesus I'm a carpenter
Forging shelves with the hammer of Thor
Gloria patri furnituribus
In nomine IKEA
For the BEDDINGE and the KIVIK, sing with me Valhalleluja
For the wooden TV bench with storage space and paper foil
For the pencils and the horse-meatballs, we sing Valhalleluja
The ergonomics and the quality of our chairs
Are second to none

That's some kind of wonderful. Can I get a witness.

The music can be massaged to fit

Pronounce it any way you like. All I know, is that the one and only time I went, I was bored to tears, while SWMBO wandered from pre-fab decorated room to pre-fab decorated room. Then I was tasked with assembling furniture I didn't want nor particularly cared for. YMMV

I've been there a couple of times. It was a zoo. They wouldn't let me in the play area.

Time Sharing Option - which led to CICS on a mainframe.

That was a little before my time but not by much. Started in IT in '76. I worked as a clerk in the parts and maint departments of a small aircraft company. One of my jobs was tracking inventory on a printout and recording ins and outs manually. Once a month I would take the pencil whipped printout to a service bureau and they would update the inventory on hand with the ins/outs and price/cost changes from the printout, then make a new printout. The computer center looked like stuff bought at a garage sale and assembled in a garage but it worked. I don't remember what any of it was. They had a 2-3 tape drives that were about 5 ft tall.

Stimulus money to spend!! They are all going to IKEA or Scheels up in your neck of the woods.

We went to Ikea...once. I hadn't even heard of Scheels until I started getting junk email from them about a month ago. Maybe I should feel privileged that the largest Scheels and largest all sports store in the world is located a mere 14.5 miles away from us. Wow. Yeah, I had to look it up. That's another 2 mins of my life gone.

Well, I don't know about all that but if it's like other "lots of assembly required" furniture you better be good at visual comprehension. I say that as I sit at my Bush Furniture lots of assembly required desk with L and two drawer pedestal.
