I first met them in about 1978 when I started working with one of their brothers, and did a variety of shows with them over the years. We have all stayed in touch over the years, the music reminds me of where we came from. I still work some projects with their brother after what, 38 years? This is how the business used to be, full of long term relationships.

If the Cubs start sucking eggs again, I'm going to pump this into my stereo tonight. I don't remember seeing it, but I might have an LP or two.

Calibrated high resolution monitors make a big difference in a professional environment.

I suppose we will see. There's claim and then there's how our vision systems deal with it. They had sRGB color and are moving to using P3 color which is why they are claiming 25% more colors. Also 67% higher contrast ratio, 500 nits brightness.

Another nice feature is Thunderbolt 3 ports, one will support a 5K display. They'll be introducing an LG designed 5K monitor when the computer is released. Be interesting to see what it will be able to do.

It's an expensive machine for sure. I priced the 15" model with some options and it came in more than a MacPro. I use it primarily for work so it gets replaced on a schedule. Budget factors in but there is some leeway when selecting the best tool for the job.

I replaced an older MacPro with a MacBook Pro which turned out to be faster. Being portable made a big difference for working. I was thinking of another MacPro but the current model seems to be at the end of its life cycle. It has Thunderbolt 2 ports, the new MacBook Pro will have Thunderbolt 3 ports which are twice as fast. Thunderbolt 3 ports will easily drive fiberoptic audio IO.

I suppose those who sell them will say that 5K horizontal pixel monitors will be more useful than 4K for video applications. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that Sony Professional was pushing 4K as the latest broadcast standard.

Like with cell phones, they invent new technology and insist on finding reasons why you should have it. At one time, a phone was for making calls. Now they seem to be used for everything but. No doubt they'll push how much better the video development will be with 5K.

Except that the industry has already defined 8k at the next approved platform. It has to do with the ease of pixel maping across platforms.

Waaay back in the late 90's I worked for Merisel in El Segundo. It was the 2nd biggest distributer of computer hardware and software in the world and couldn't make money... went bankrupt. I negotiated special pricing from manufacturers for govt./edu/large orders. These guys would drop their pants on price to move a bunch of ram/hardrives/modems, etc... because the next month it would be obsolete. A new twice as fast and cheaper product was on the way... Somehow, the business model continues...

I get this all the time with staff. You have two ways to change the coloring. In the monitor, most have various "themes" you can choose with less color or contrast. In the computer, go under Control Panel and and you can adjust colors. If you have an Intel video driver you can right click on your desktop and select "Intel Graphics" and a box will come up allowing you to adjust your colors.

I find that there's no logic behind these decisions other than financial. 5k will be more affordable than a higher resolution so it is easier to sell. Apple for example sold 4K for a while, with their new Thunderbolt 3 interface they can support one 5K monitor or two 4K monitors. Once they've made money selling their ($1300US LG UltraFine 5K Display) 5K and they have a faster port to support it, they'll want to sell the next increment in technology. No question that there is more profit in selling smaller increments every couple of years rather than one giant leap.

Yeah, assuming the OS offers enough control or plays well with third party ICC profiles, which Apple's OS X did not (not for me, anyway), not sure it it better nowadays. The control the Eizo includes makes a world of a difference, for me. :)

Apple is getting more restrictive with how third party modules interact with their latest OS revision. Some firewire protocols have become more restrictive that affect third party chipsets. This is affecting AMS-Neve. Solid State Logic has a console automation system called Delta Control. Their external hardware controllers don't work with the latest version of Logic because of newly imposed software restrictions. What works for a simple mouse or trackball no longer works with a fader. They were asking customers to lobby Apple to change it.

I am reading this at work. And, somehow, it fits my job description, all of a sudden (I work with display technology).

My gall bladder was scanned and some residue was found... I need to swallow a length of tube next, in a couple of weeks.

Ooooooh my, I hope you get sedation for that. I had a guy fiddling in my throat for a thyroid node as my thyroid was going South. Not fun, but been through way worst. He sent his micro camera crew up through my nose.
