Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I love V8, but it goes through me very quickly.

Took me several years, but I found out that my gout is triggered by concentrated tomatoes. Marinara sauce, tomato juice etc, will put me out of commission in just a few days. I love V-8 but it does not love me back.

Beer. It's for breakfast! A company I used to work for had a golf outing once a year. Show up about 7am to get assigned to 4-man teams, then have beer and donuts for breakfast, and beer during play, then beer during lunch, and beer during afternoon poker playing. Did I mention there was beer?

Summer 1980, 19 years old, working building houses. For those who were around then and were in the general area, you may remember, that was the summer we had over 65 days in a row of over 100 degree temps. That aside, we got paid Friday morning, supervisors all left at noon, when we would go to the local check cashing convenience store, cash our checks and buy beer. We worked the rest of Friday with a beer in one hand. On Saturdays, no supervisors showed up, so we started drinking as soon as we arrived. Monday’s were usually spent re-doing everything we did Saturday. Oh to be that young and stupid again.

We used to hang out at the Edgewater Inn on the harbor in Seattle that hosted so many rock star bands. One day we were there in the bar and Pete Townsend walked in. My late friend Eddy said, "Peter, I love your music but you look much better without a beard." That night we were at the Who show in the Seattle Arena and Pete had shaved his beard. He did look better.

In the bar he looked like a small person. I was much bigger than him. Not because I'm a big guy now but because he seemed slight and short. But pound for pound, he was worth so much more! LOL.

Do the Mudshark baby...”

My wife and I stayed there after a TB GTG several years ago, it’s a great hotel.

I'm looking forward to reading this in his memoirs.

(subliminal suggestion) Gee, I wish I had a V8.

When I was a kid I did tar and gravel roofing for a few years and one day we did a factory roof right across the street from a bar, the foreman left for the day and we decided to go to the bar and had a long liquid lunch. When we were done we went back across the street to the site and since I was the lightest one (I was more the mascot than a serious worker) we all decided that the rest of the crew would pull me up to the second floor roof by the gin pole from the ground. All went well until I got close to the roof when all of a sudden I went back down fast for a second and then stopped again. I had heard a lot of yelling all during this time. I guess 3 of the 4 guys pulling slipped and fell or something. The remaining guy held me until the others got back up and pulled me the rest of the way up. We then had a liquamat fight (5 gallons buckets of tar) with the brushes on the roof, we got blobs all over the roof and it got in our hair and everything but we had plenty of gasoline to wash it out with.
I believe we left early that day and didn't go anywhere near the bar for the rest of the time we did that job.

It's ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶d̶e̶m̶o̶n̶ rum I couldn't touch again for decades. Clear recollection of my father's laughter from the bedroom as I experienced my first (but not last) case of the dry heaves.* He pulled my sorry rear end out of bed at 6 the next morning and made me eat a full breakfast :dead:

Have taken to a bit of rum with eggnog, come the holidays. But it took a long time :meh:

* once every few months the dry heaves visit in the morning for no reason I or any of my medical team can figure

When I was a kid, maybe 12 I decided to sneak downstairs in the middle of the night and steal some of my parents booze, neither of them drank much but they did have a bottle of gin in the cupboard. I tried it and thought it was the most disgusting stuff I'd ever tried in my life so I figured I'd cut it with something. I liked root beer so tried that, that still didn't taste very good but it was a little better. End result was I ran up and down the stairs several times for more and got so drunk I passed out in my bed and vomited all over the bed, the walls, the floor, my mother suspected something but couldn't prove it and of course I lied and just told her I was sick.
I was sick for a couple of days and I couldn't even touch root beer for some years afterward without almost hurling. I stopped drinking years ago anyway but for as long as I did drink I could never drink gin again.

I haven't had rum since one night shortly after high school graduation. I and my friends had already polished off a very modest amount of beer, then decided to get some air and took a walk around the block. One guy mentioned he had a pint bottle of rum in his glove box and fetched it. Everyone else having declined, he and I alternated taking sips from it as we circumnavigated the block. When we got back to my friend's house the rum was all gone. There once was, and still may be, a photo of me lying in my friend's driveway afterward. Then, after taking the picture, he very kindly followed me home in those halcyon days when you were good to drive if you could get the keys into the ignition. Never again.
