Then there's this: Our very old little mini poodle Sparky did me one better by going completely deaf in his aging process. But he's figured out (or just instinctly understands?) some broad sign language. For instance once you get eye contact with him he knows and complys with the universal hand wave to "come follow me", plus a sign for stop or stay (or 'down'!), plus one for "NO!", and yet another double hand wave sign for "that's all for now, there ain't no more."

Try doing any of this stuff with our big and mean ol' cat Mrs Katz and she'll just stare dumbly at you, probably wondering why we're doing the Lindy Hop in her face! o_O -But then try to get some privacy in the bathroom? Sheeeesh! -Unless the door is tightly latched, SCRATCH-CLAW-BAM!!, she's right in there with you!
And so my days of blissfully reading Bass Player magazine peacefully alone on the throne are now gone forever!! :rollno:

I still think cats are smarter, or at least mine is, they're just way more independant, mine does come when I call her though and she will go where I want her to go, I've had her for 14 years now and she's really attached to me so I think she humors me a little. She follows me all over the house, why won't cats do tricks? Because they don't want to. :laugh: The dogs are loyal to my wife and Gata is loyal to me.

A question

If it were possible [ this is strictly a thought experiment ] for an animal to place a thought in your head that sounds to you like your own voice/thought ... to get you to do something it wants you to do ... who is more likely to do this? A cat, or a dog?




because this feels to me very much a cat thing to do.

Well, I have trained my wife's cat to sit up for a treat after we have had dinner. She knows when it's time and is ready for the treat over her head. I don't know if it's training or starvation. That's the only interaction I have with that thing. Everything else has led to scratches and bites. My wife says that's because she was abandoned as a kitten. I say someone was smarter that us...
