When skip is rolling, it can be amazing. There was a guy in the CB club I was part of in 70 that talked to a guy in Hawaii from South Miami. They were both on 1/2 W handhelds. And they exchanged CQ/DX cards to prove it.

Some mobile CB units had a PA out. We had one in the car and hooked it to a bull horn loud speaker mounted behind the grill. I had a portable tape recorder and a sound effects record from which I taped a car crash. Squealing breaks and smash. Played at intersections to great effect.
I always said I was gonna hook up a speaker. Never got a round tuit.

! A friend of mine, back then, connected a horn to his 8 track to attract the girls while cruising the main streets...didn't seem to work but it was fun to try...he was driving a Chevy II, that could have been the problem.

All of the parts you needed to install a PA speaker, could be purchased from JC Whitney. I had a speaker, for my CB mike, an air horn, and several “stupid looking” accessories, on my 74 3/4 ton Chevy truck. The catalog arrived like clockwork, and even for a high school kid, most things were very affordable. The most memorable thing I remember buying, was a cat that had red lighted eyes, that tied into the brake and signal lights. I bought it for my grandmother one Christmas for her 77 Mercury. It “sat” inside the back window facing backwards. She thought it was great. Or she just didn’t want to hurt her “favorite”(only) grandson’s feelings. I even installed it for her. The sun quickly caused the cat to shed it’s luxurious white fur, but it was still installed, when she traded in her car.
JC Whitney, had (at least to me) everything anyone would need. I still remember my “cool” cowboy skull shifter knob.

It was a copper color and ran so badly, like a toilet we said, we dubbed it "the Copper Commode". Burned oil. Drank oil. Leaked oily water from a crack in the heater all over the cabin floor. I kept a case of Skat recycled oil in the trunk.
