You find them funnier every time you retell them. Other’s, not always. It depends on their age.

If you use the same bass line on two different songs on the same gig, it’s time to come up with some new material.

I think when you retell old jokes that you know people have heard a thousand times you have to channel your inner-Andy Kaufman/Tony Clifton and enjoy the pain you inflict on others.

the book looks like a good page turner. The Doors isn't really good headspace for me (personally). A couple hours with The Doors =/= a couple hours with Stan Kenton.

My buddy and I were big fans back in the day and when Jim died he hitchhiked out to CA to take his place in the band due to his having ingested a little too much DSL over a period of time. He thought Jim was talking to him through his records and he was the only one who could take his place. He came back in several weeks and never really mentioned too much about the trip.

I had one of those. It was my gateway into video editing with titles and animations. If I had just waited another 30 or so years, I would have saved a lot of $ and been able to do better on my phone!

Terrible times, Abby Hoffman was from Worcester, Ma and his brother Jack managed one of my bands years ago, he was a very nice guy, I only met Abby once as he was on the run from the law during most of that time. I can also see why you could equate The Doors with Stan Kenton, they both tended towards the bombastic at times.

Ah well I'm saying The Doors space is kind of weird and snakey, and Stan Kenton space is all big band and brass and some swagger. Swagger is what Kenton and Morrison both did, it feels. But Kenton's swagger seems to me more about getting down a good swing (and knowing it). Morrison's swagger is to me seamy, and even obscene. And I can see why that sold at the time. I mean, jeeze, look at The Byrds, as old-school Hollywood as you can find right up there with Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Sure I grokked on The Doors space (the visual of the leather pants is quite clear in my mind). It's not a place I like to stay. All that nightmarish Sunset Boulevard stuff may be real (oh, it is) but not a good place to hang out. IMO.

Shift the time lens a little bit and all that swing music was hanging out on the wrong side of the tracks, too.

I had a problem with the keyboard bass.
I needed to hear strings.
Still good stuff when I was in the mood.

I tend to like Monk, Davis, Parker etc. Bebop and hard bop is my favorite. I've always liked this tune by Monk for something odd, they say he recorded this because the composer's name was also Monk. I like the jazz horns doing a hymn with the jazz feel and vibrato. This whole album is great.

ha. I had that album, and it was much-worn. You've seen the strap that came new with my bass 42 years ago? I can't use it now, it's not safe. The leather spent too much time without proper leather care. Because = me. It's the most comfortable strap I own. Here it is next to a similar strap in white from Franklin that's discontinued. Not. The. Same. Close.

Alrighty then. I do know several people that keep their heads in that location but I don't know that it has increased their knowledge. I occasionally do that myself.

Where did you get the Monk sticker? I love Monk.
