I'm not even going to post that joke :bag:

On the subject of fine comestibles, I missed out on a taste of morel mushrooms this year. The weather didn't cooperate and my mushroom guy didn't call me. I have been compensated, though. Between rain showers, I pulled a few of the finest eating fish (crappie) out of my brother's lake yesterday afternoon...

Used to regularly pull a mess of crappies out of Lake Mendota in Madison back in the college days. We used Aunt Jemima's pancake mix with beer instead of water for the batter. We had three electric skillets that we fired up, opened our apartment door, blocked it with a table, and handed out crappie sammies to all comers. Really tasty!

I've had pancake mix and flat 7-up recommended to me, but haven't tried it. I've been eating cornmeal-coated fish since I was a kid and see no end to the trend. :) I use two cups of cornmeal with two teaspoons of salt and one of pepper whisked in. I dip the fillets in egg before coating, fry in peanut oil, cool, then let the teeth and taste buds enjoy. :D

We used to fish. Would like to again. This pic is in the Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario circa 1989. I let this one go - 21".

Sounds good until I found out what and where they eat. Bottom feeders are ok in certain lakes, IMHO.

I think you may be confusing crappie, with carp. Crappie are not bottom feeding fish. They eat live prey, minnows, shad, insects, etc. In fact, while fishing for them with minnows, you won’t get any bites, if the minnow dies. They are, in my opinion, probably the best tasting fresh water fish out there. I like trout, and catfish, but a mess of fried crappie fillets, will make me crash your fish fry!

OK, @Deeper Texan, I will agree with what you said about great tasting. I heard the same out here in California. I was all set to go out to our "not-so" Clear Lake to catch some until I heard about their elevated mercury levels. Apparently, they feed on some "things" with high mercury levels so I decided to give it a pass. If you look up the drainage from the Geysers in Northern California, you might get a hint of what I was mentioning.

It could be fake news, but I am crazy enough as it is without adding mercury to my diet ;).

Somebody from the South frying in corn meal? Who'da thunk it.

We know.;)

I've been in a free-falling elevator. That's an unnerving feeling.

So is being in a free falling helicopter.

Look up "autorotation".

The pilot has a plan to save the aircraft, but nobody else knows that.
If he does everything exactly right you may see another birthday, but the ship is getting bent, and your spine may never speak to you again. :bored:

Unlike an airplane, when a helicopter has an engine failure, the pilot has literally seconds to access the situation, find a landing spot, and bring it down. You have to be good.
