Sheesh. I leave you kids alone for the weekend...................

Beautiful day here in Sitka. It's a roasting 62 degrees. Remember we Alaskans have very thick blood so we overheat quickly.....

The weekend was nice. Got more cleanup done and watched TCM Oscar movies. Lilies of the Field, etc. Even some Fred and Ginger. Kind of miss the days when my parents were in their prime. I wasn't there but boy their movies and music was top notch. Not to mention right after WWII we OWNED the world! GI Bill, GI Home loans--- what a wonderful time. I'm fortunate I was a boy at the tail end of that...

Even some Fred and Ginger.
What, no Maryanne?

I can see a new sidewalk or paving stones. Why do you want to get rid of your lawn? Pave paradise and put up a parking lot
Grass for now, but eventually, it will become a sort of flower garden. Better for the birds and the bees and the, well, you know.

Watching grass grow is relaxing.
A friend of mine used to have a special room for that. ;)

It was sad to see Jack the dog on a leash in the forest today. He’s such a gentle soul that enjoys roaming and running and playing in the woods with his dog friends. He was attacked by another dog and got into a fight. Jack won. He’s the biggest great dane that I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, the owner of the bad dog that started it complained.
It's always the honest and innocent who end up paying for the transgressions of those who have no respect for the law, their fellow human being, or just common courtesy.

Soaked up a fair amount of vitamin D and made many laps around my brother's lake yesterday while giving some great-nephews and nieces their first boat rides yesterday. Some also got hooked on fishing by catching their first fish. With some finely grilled surf, turf, veggies, with chickpea and fruit salads, we made some fun and tasty memories.

Did you push the kids out of the boat into the lake?

I've got many a bootful (what we called high tops) falling through the ice as a kid. For some reason, in the spring that scap just has to be picked, you vs the ice thickness. Every year ice fishermen drive their cars onto frozen lakes and rivers. Every year vehicles fall though the ice and are lost. You drive by looking at them when it gets warmer and think, will they get away with it this time.

There are two ice bridges across rivers that I pass by in the country. In the winter they clear a path and charge money to drive over the bridge. Both cars and trucks with restrictions are allowed to cross. In the summer there are ferry boats. One is barges that tugs tow, the other is a regular drive on ferry. The government inspects the ice thickness and determines when the ice bridge season opens and closes. It usually doesn't open till January and closes in March. A lot of people use these crossing points, they save a lot of time rather than driving to proper bridge.
