A buddy and I dropped a 30 over 283(302) with 12.5:1s into a notchback with a turbo350 trans. Rich crashed it with me riding shotgun at about 100. Knocked the front end slap off a C10 pickup. I got a buncha stitches in my head, I was the only one hurt. Besides the Vega, of course. He was dead.

Aside from some issues with warped aluminum blocks related to cooling problems, the biggest problem that Canadians had with the Vega, is that we like to salt our roads in the winter as though they’re French fries.

The Vega was extremely susceptible to rust- even worse than the infamous Ford Maverick and the AMC Gremlin.

I was always a little mystified by pictures I saw of V8-swapped Vegas in the States.

Big motor, little car? I love the idea in principle, but based on our experience, I couldn’t figure how they kept a healthy small-block from falling out of a car that was presumably held together with duct tape…

...dishwashers. ...... I'm not even putting one in the house I'm now building.

When we did our kitchen reno in '13 we didn't bother with one, either. If the next owners want to do so, they can modify the base cabinet to the right of the sink to install one in.

My sister has been through LG and Samsung appliances with poor luck on both.

Probably best to stick with a company that does appliances only instead of that plus cell phones and TVs.

Yamaha could do it; everything they make is good stuff.

Oh no, we had lotsa Red Greens running around down here at that time. The engineering feats that could be accomplished with a mixture equal parts stubbornness, alcohol, and the wish to cause jaws to drop lead to many of these types of "sleeper" rods!

My buddy Rich had a 5 yr license suspension so I was the duty driver. That Vega had a stock 2.73 gear in it, and I revved 7000 in 3rd with the Turbo 350 trans. I guess around 140 or so. It would haul serious ass because it weighed nothing. The hood opened backwards like a 'vette, and at WOT Rich would have to reach out and hold the hood down because the air flow would force it up at the windshield base.
Rich died. He ate a shotgun shell.

Those became obsolete when Sears stopped printing catalogs. And Sears is almost extinct. Sears could have been Amazon if they would have had a little foresight in the late '90s. They already had the warehousing and distribution in place.

Gibson buying Mesa...who would have thought?

I predicted that Mesa would be sold a few years ago, it’s was just a matter of time. Randy is 75, you would expect that he would want his baby to not only continue to do well but flourish. what makes most sense is to find a bigger company that has the resources to take it to a higher level. I thought maybe Yamaha bit that wouldn’t be good. Same for Fender.

Gibson is currently a very good company. They’ve made good decisions in recent years, moved more into technology for manufacturing. Employees are proud to work there. The two companies are a good match.

For several years before the Sears that I shopped in closed, the store was not well stocked. The tool department did well. Cloths because dowdy. A lot of people in the country ordered from Sears catalog stores. You’d go in, look at their catalogs, place an order at the desk.

The sales people in the store would tell you to order it from them on the internet. They didn’t want you bothering them. They knew that they were running out their time before they got a deal to retire. It was sad to see it decline. But I wanted to see items in the store and carry it home.

Use an aluminum V8 like I did with mine. It only weighed 30 lbs more than the 4 banger. 185hp and more than enough to move 2,200 lbs pretty quick.
