Hello all GOF's and thak you for your well-wishing. The operation went well and I am at home now with a 40 cm scar held together with 18 staples. After the operation, I woke up and then was promptly wheeled to the urology ward where I spent the following week, only to be wheeled in my bed to dialysis and a couple of vascular small-time operations, and back.
On the second day, a shower was scheduled. I am sure it's a prank devised by the younger nurses. "Okay, it's shower day!" was my wake-up call. They made me undress, with my catheter on and all, sat me on a stool and gave me shower gel and a washcloth, then turned on the water. I bit my teeth and strained against the rising specks of color in my vision, and completed my task, rinsing off by myself. Then I managed to say: "I think I'll need some help toweling..." and I woke up to four young nurses shouting in my ear to wake up.
Two of the nurses were very apologetic later this week. I gave them all chocolate on release. Maybe also on the honor of the one enema they gave me.
My condition improved rapidly on Monday and today, and I gave them no reason to doubt that I could be released for home care by the Missus. The dog is at my mother's. I have a lift limit of 2 kilograms, but I have exceeded it many times today. Even this laptop is heavier.
One of the vascular oprations I got was a fistula graft they made on my left wrist to enable self-administered dialysis down the road. The graft has to be strengthened by using the left hand muscles. Bass playing is perfect for this, but the physical therapist told me I have to avoid static tension, so I can only do quarter-hour stretches at at time. I will have plenty of time for this. My medical leave is until the end of February.
So, I am glad to be back and nearly not grumpy as last week climbing the walls at the ward. I am glad Ken is back in action too. Maybe we have a chance to compare the war wounds some time!
