Eating a can of ravioli with about 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar, making it gourmet ravioli, and letting those you tubes run on auto. Very educational. You never know when you might need to shove a thermometer of a horses ass.

So living here for five years now I am always ready for a surprise. This morning I was greeted with the very identifiable smell of roasted p.c. board in my equipment filled studio. After sniffing around fo a few minutes I determined that it was the worst case scenario. My venerable but much loved and very important Korg D16XD all in one recorder which I have had for over 10 years had given up the magic smoke. The smell was so strong that I figured it was done for good.
I have to admit that I am to blame as the device has a standby mode that still allows the internal power supply to remain on. There is a global power switch but out of laziness and forgetfulness I regularly don't use it.
Anyway I immediately opened the unit which thankfully is well laid out and has plenty of space to work. The power supply is mounted on standoffs fastened to the bottom pan. When I lifted the p.s. board I could see a large portion of the bottom had arced and burned. Laying in the pan under the board was what I at first thought was some melted plastic. I saw movement and when I scraped it up it turned out to be a 1 1/2" long lizard that was being eaten by a million tiny crazy ants. The lizard was burned along its back. So that was the bad news, especially for the lizard.
The good news is that I have a spare Korg D16XD that I got as a project (never got around to) with a good power supply. Also the power supply manufacturer saw fit to include a label with the output voltages and amperages AND a reasonable replacement can be gotten from Jameco in the USA if I ever get around to the project unit.
I will be using the power switch from now on.

So ants like BBQ gecko! Good thing you had a spare. Do you use any sort of regulator for the unreliable AC there?
