Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I was just quoted nine hundred dollars to replace the ugly block inlays with black. Nine. Hundred. Dollars. I said, "Thanks, guess I will just buy a brand new Warmoth neck for 600."

Was he even serious???

A lot of money for some goth bling. I think that they gave you that high estimate because they don’t want you to modify it.

Having served on several juries with many of my fellow common citizens, I weep for the precepts of "justice", i.e. innocent until proven guilty; what constitutes admissible evidence; the actual duty of a jury; etc. I've heard more ludicrous statements made in jury rooms than the jokes submitted here about how to get out of jury duty, except that they were not said in jest! No wonder there are so many advertising plaintiff's attorneys! Seems the most charming, persuasive attorney actually does get thru to today's reality-tv-audience of a jury, no matter the judge's legal instructions nor the opposing counsel's impeccable logic!

Kids today! I tell ya they're taking the world to hell in a handbasket! I wish they'd just GET OFF MY LAWN! And ... and ... uh, ... oh, crimeny ... nevermind!
.

We watch Homicide Hunter - Lt Joe Kenda on the tube. We're bumfuzzled at the variation in sentences and the severity of the crime. Some guy gets 7 yrs for murder and another gets 15 for aggravated assault. What the heck is up with that? Somebody should get "Equalized".

Speaking of juries…….

I have been tapped for jury duty twice, but I never got to serve on a jury because I was related to a police officer (brother) and personally knew quite a few officers because of my brother.

One time…

I was selected as a potential jury member and had to go through the process where either attorney or the judge can block one from serving. The defense counsel was a VERY prominent attorney based in Cincinnati and well known throughout the U.S. When it was his turn to challenge potential jurors he asked a very common question, “Is anyone here related to or friends with a police officer?” Of course I raised my hand and he asked me to explain.

I replied, “My brother is Sgt. xxxx xxxxxx of the Cincinnati Police Department.”

What I expected was that he would turn to the judge and say something along the lines of, “Your honor, I would like to thank Mr. xxxxxx for his time and excuse him from this jury.” I expected that since every time I was asked “the police question”, the reaction of the defense attorney was the same.

That was not how he reacted. He quickly turned to the judge and said in a loud, very tense voice, “Judge, we don’t need him. He can leave now.” and put extra emphasis on the word “now”.

That evening, I called my brother and told him the story since I was confused. My brother started laughing almost uncontrollably. When he finally stopped laughing I asked him what he was laughing about.

He said, “I arrested him last night for DUI!”

Then it all made sense.

You guys awake yet?
