Hey fellas, I think I lost weight. Didn't eat for several days. I got flu Type A which is not covered by the vaccines for working aged people. It's horrid and real contagious. Could hardly walk Sun or Mon, made it to the doc Monday afternoon. Started Saturday night, couldn't hardly type. Thought I had a mini-stroke. TV, audio and computer would give me a bad headache and make me want to puke. I got in to the doc barely on time for Tami-flue to work. I'm way better now, just feels like the worst cold I ever had + bronchitis. So I can cough up a lung cookie and ship it to you if you really want to loose some weight fast :vomit: So that's why I've been quiet.

I just saw CMT has a special about Sun records coming on tonight at 10 EST.

I managed to lose almost 15 pounds and keep it off. I did it by losing my job of 26 years when the company went bankrupt and closed down. No more daily snacking and sitting at a desk and a lot more stress and the resulting health issues. Not an ideal path to weight loss.

Since I was diagnosed with prediabetes (which is starting to go away with care) I've had to become a lot more conscientious of how I eat. Wife and I are studying labels, carbs, grams of sugar, etc. We've also gone online to study nutritional content of fast foods. We've altered our eating habits a lot because wife is a bit pudgy too and it's helping her in more ways than one.

It's really incredible when your eyes are opened. The whole industry is driving so many people straight to diabetes. Look at how unhealthy all the major brands of fast foods are. And yet for today the trend for young people is no longer to cook-- it's almost become cheaper to eat out every night. Even when you think you're eating well, have you ever looked at the contents of a so-called "lite salad dressing?" Carbs, corn syrup, sugar, and way too much sodium. Everything has sodium in it.

I'm sorry I had to realize this through going pre but it sure has become an eye opener for me. Even with eating better and the small weight I lost I already feel better. I seem to have more energy. The doctor says it's because the body is spending less time trying to break down all the fats and carbs. We're becoming a nation of overweight people. Is it personally our fault? Yes. But the industry was sure there to accommodate us. End of rant. Sorry GOF's.

I've been heavy into bicycling since 1986 and it's kept me fit, alive and as close to sane as I'm likely to get. It's taken it's toll though too. All the injuries that I've had over those years have come back to haunt me in various aches and pains, and if I do get a new injury it now takes a lot longer to recover. There's no way I'd quit riding though. I've cut way back on mountain biking and just ride the easy trails now. I can't ride an upright road bike any more, so last year I switched to a recumbent trike and I've never had so much fun on a bike. It's like riding in a comfortable recliner that's strapped to a go-kart. The downside is that they're heavier and slower than a road bike, but that means I get a better workout without the pain and discomfort.

i hear those trikes are a good way to go!

Just got older and grumpier in no time.

Had a smaller heart attack Thursday, 23rd of February, one of the coronary arteries was neraly closed. Massive chest pain, wandering to the left arm, I know a heart attack when I see (feel) one, because I was a voluntary paramedic when I was young. So I went to the hospital immediately.

There a heart catheter was set, they (and I) saw the narrow arthery, expandet it with a balloon and set in a stent. In about 30 min all was over.

I had to stay in hospital for about a week because of possible problems. Last Thursday I was seht to a Spa, kinda Rehab, for three weeks of heart recovery, maybe even two weeks more. Lots of GOF - sports here to help the old muscle to go on for a while. They want me to loose weight, so I am on 1.400 kalorys a day.

Next few months I will have to take a lots of pills like blood thinner and stuff, there are 12 pills in the morning I have to swallow. But I am still here. And I am happy that my son comes tomorrow to visit his old dad - and he brings me one of my Stingray 5 so I can practise while getting my heart strong again.

Thank God you are OK. I guess they will spank the old ticker back in to shape. 30 or 40 years ago, perhaps when you did your parametic work, this would have been open heart surgery and a bypass. The last two years my goal was to make it through the year without a HA or stroke. Sat night/Sunday I wasn't sure if I hadn't blown on my third year, but turned out to be the flue. Thursday morning I picked up my wife from work, and she proceeded to yell at me about her job the whole way home. Then when we got home I went to take a shower for my follow up with the doc regarding my flue episode and when I bent down to turn on the water, I could see my pulse again.

God bless you and I hope you get better faster than the doctors predict. Glad your son is bringing you a bass. Do you have a headphone amp?
And just to be careful with your heart, keep yer paws off those young pretty nurses... not good for your BP you know... ;)

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the good wishes. I alredy feel better, and the doc here sayd that the old pump is already looking better on the ultrasound scan than when I left hospital. So I think it will come out fine - with proper medication and some exercises.

As I am a GOF, I sure have a Tom Scholz Bassman from the end of the 70's ( I persume). So there will be nothing about my bassplaying that is able to make other patients here more grumpy as necessary.

There is a music room that is under supervision of the pastor of the hospitals. There is a piano in it, but it looks like they use it for worship exclusively.

Maybe I can talk to some people to start something with piano and bass, my son (one of them) has to bring my Promethean 5110 for this. Lets have a look, maybe there are some more musicians around....?

You go get 'em, Mr. @TheRealKong :bassist:

Aside from playing music, I unfortunately also have a day gig...in the HS education world. Happily we are in Spring Break mode, day 2 of 7...

I've done only what I want - 3 gigs in this span...so things ain't too bad at all. Come Sunday afternoon, the angst of deciding whether to go back to aggravation or not will kick in...but that's Sunday.

Dang it! Found this appropriately titled list for this thread, but, heck, it's too durn long!!! The first few sound about right. TL;DR

Grouchy Old Fart Manifesto
1) That ain't gravity; it's reality sucking you back to Earth.
2) If it's good for you it tastes NASTY!
2a) If it tastes good it'll kill you.
3) What doesn't kill you?
4) Never let logic or reason derail your train of thought.
5) Liars abound. Proceed accordingly.
6) Joy! I can't remember what I forgot!
7) Heaven: that place we gotta go through hell to get to.
7a) Hell: that place where you are forced to hear the endless whining about how unfair life is from people whose first and last thought is,"where's my cell phone?"
7b) Where's my cell phone?
8) If you say what you really mean, you're construed as being really mean.
9) Aging gracefully is only possible for dancers and gymnasts. The rest of us somehow just manage to stumble to the finish line.
10) Snap, crackle, pop used to be the sounds from a breakfast cereal. Now it's my marching cadence.
11) Looking at some of my old friends and thinking" Damn, they got old!"
11a) Looking at some of my new friends and thinking" You'll find out".
12) The label on Preparation H is incomplete. Nothing about how to clean your fingernail.
13) Just cause I'm deaf doesn't give you license to holler at me. Text me.
14) Relics look familiar.
15) Can't remember where I put what I can't remember............or why.
16) Today is already becoming yesterday. By the time tomorrow gets here it's gone.
17) Talking to myself is sometimes the most intelligent conversation I'll have all day.
18) ?
19) Nothing is guaranteed. Really. I guarantee it.
20) Vacuuming just gives the cats a clean place to drop hair on their muddy footprints.
21) Voting is just selecting which liar will get you the most free poopie.
22) Eating takes teeth. I'm on a diet.
23) Words can have many meanings and create misunderstandings that escalate into violence. Shut up.
24) Trips to Walmart reaffirm my theory of devolution.
25) Green energy is produced from eating multiple servings of Brussels sprouts.
26) I don't have to listen to cicadas anymore. They've taken up residence in my head.

Yeah, there's lots more, but I'll be dadgummed if I can remember 'em.
