Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I feel like this is a place where I can talk to guys my own age and express my feelings. And today I'm very upset and sad. I work in local city government, and this weekend, two of our employees had their lives touched with tragedy. A young lady I know in one of the departments (28 years old) was killed by her boyfriend, the legal assistant here in the same organization. I think I'm in shock. She had accepted another job in another location and I had talked to her Friday and told her we needed to do a selfie.

Well, she's gone now. And the man who shot her was always a quiet seemed to be level headed guy. The organization is shaken to its core. I talked with my wife this weekend but I need to say something so please forgive me for spouting here. Believe it or not, I know some of you of course online only better than I do many people where I live.

Please share a prayer with me for the couple whose lives are changed forever, one gone, and the other probably to spend his life behind bars.

Wow, Will, that's very sad and I'm so sorry to hear about it. My daughter used to live in Sitka and she probably knows these folks too. I spent a bit of time up there while she was there so I know how close your community is and how deeply this must affect people there. She and her boyfriend moved to near Seattle last fall. In fact, you and I may have met up there at one of Ted's jams a couple years ago .. maybe we should PM about that.

So: a crop duster constantly disturbing me:banghead:. It's been like 10 days of this idiot's whirly. He seems to like to fly around about 5pm until he can't see. I was on the eastern side of the front (north facing) porch around 6 pm tonight. The nose of the duster was dead center to me and the porch (going east to west). He gives us a good buzz. The last few days, I've been watching this loser. I've yet to see him drop anything. He's been around long enough to have sprayed every field around. This evening, he shows up around 5:45 when we can finally enjoy the porch without totally oppressive heat. Believe or not, I'm going to fill out some form rather than shoot a gun at him. Jail is terrible. We have Parish Jury Boards for this kinda disruption; my local rep is the president of the jury board. I'm so going Trump that daredevil crop duster! Over the last two days, I've become convinced he's just joy riding.o_O

Some years ago, a crop duster was doing his thing early Sunday morning near Seminole Tx...got a tad too close to some roughneck's trailer house...dude was trying to sleep off last night's party.

Dude commenced to taking his frustrations out on the pilot with a shotgun-hit the duster at least twice. Needless to say, the plane stopped, but the sleepy lad was arrested shortly thereafter.

Moral of the story? None really...don't live too close to farm fields? Totie Fields? Strawberry Fields? They are forever, y'know.

We are obviously musicians and now elders. Can we guide our children/grandchildren, friends and associates to feel their feelings?
In the old days we'd listen to a song about loss. The Blues, Motown, Country and Pop all express the vagaries of love lost love found. Could we guide each other that it's okay to be sad as well as glad? Scared or angry? Suppressed emotion is the cause of these crazy acts. Check the stats many spree killers are spousal abusers. How did kids grow up to treat others this way?

We say, "don't get angry, don't be sad, everyone wins." We teach our kids to not feel their feelings. Then someone gets dumped and they can't deal. Back to my point when I was a young kid and a young bassist you got dumped and your friends had been dumped and music shared our common experience. "Girl left me, I can't get the girl." We learned how to be better in relationships. We felt our emotions and developed empathy.

Crop dusting and associated flying is tightly regulated by the FAA. Make a video, catch the plane's registration. With a complaint to the FAA, you can swat that flea if they are not following the regulations. They take this sort of thing very seriously.

What are the flight rules for crop dusters?

Yah, I'm guessing they don't get to abuse their privilage of flying under the minimum altitude to amuse themselves, harass you or even practice. I think they are pretty restricted on how far past the field they can go and they are liable if they spray you or your land once they do spray. Report that to your state chemist's office. There are state and federal EPA and USDA laws involved and enforced by your state. The pesticide applicator IS responsible for the wind and the drift involved. Fines are heavy.

I'm an avid organic farmer for me veggies. Believe me, I'm happy he wasn't spraying; it just begged the question: Why the hell are you flying? I've had huge patches of my front lawn killed by over spray a couple of years ago.

Yeah, at that altitude, I figure I can hit it at least twice with my 20 guage pump. It's the whole jail thing... don't enjoy it.

Gawd what a lousy night...

What do y'all do when exactly everything about a gig goes wrong? Band is off, technical issues out the wazoo, certain people in the crowd bitching like they were being paid to do it, etc...

It was all I could do not to sit in the parking lot with the wireless.

Try being the sound provider dealing with a gig going sideways, especially after you tried and tried to advance the date but were blown off. Not fun.
