Hey GOF's. Need your advice. I recently bought an Eden amp off of eBay and was very sad to receive it. The seller has perfect feedback and listed this Eden as "has a few scratches."
I'm attaching pictures. The amp is pretty much nasty on the outside and the master volume is bent. I paid $250 for this amp and don't think it's a good deal. I'm very disappointed because it looks like some kid owned the amp and thrashed it on the outside.
The amp itself is kind of sticky and even feels a little nasty. The front gold edge is all worn off. I contacted him and asked for a refund and he got a bit testy. He said he listed the amp with scratches. Do you guys think this 8 year old amp is worth $250?
What say ye, GOF's?

IMO, the scratches are not the issue, the master volume control is a BIG issue. Looks like the amp took a real hit and buckled the faceplate sheet metal. This can lead to major issues inside the amp. That's not a scratch, but material damage.
I filed a return request with eBay and mentioned I have a friend who works in the amplification industry and recommends that I don't have anything to do with the amp for safety's sake and that it needs to be inspected by an electronics repairman before being used, and that the bent knob was proof of possible damage to the internals of the amp.

IMO, this is the smart decision.
I'm set up to do this kind of repair, I have some good sheet metal tools as well as being able to repair the electronics, but most shops are not equipped to do this kind of repair well and warranty it too. You don't want his problem to be your problem, really.

One of the chinese cheese retainer screws on my lathe broke.. yes, one that holds one of the sets of change gears to make it run.. i am there working on a part and all of a sudden.. the gears fall off the lathe, hit the table and i was lucky enough to be able to catch them before they slammed into the cement floor!
This is supposed to be hobby machines, but yet still precision stuff.. they say that you should replace all of the screws and bolts in chinese built machines.. i can only imagine about a vehicle that is built there!

I hope that the seller doesn't claim that the damage occurred during shipping or that you damaged it. It drives home the need to have a full set of images before making a purchase. Request that any damage be clearly shown in the images. At least then you'll know if it was damaged while being shipped.

Imagine getting hit in the face by a flying bolt. I hope that you intend on changing out the other critical fasteners.
That's just...just...just...misrepresentation of the product. A bent shaft is as bad for an amp as it is for, well, one of us.
Keep us up to speed on this story...I'd eBay, the 'seller,' etc work to resolve this matter.

Thanks GOF's. Wife says about the price, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!" It was about $150 less selling price than many of its counterparts. For the extra $150 I could have gotten a refurb with a warranty from an online store. Well, live and learn I guess. I'm sorry to say I'm not grumpy-- Got a 4 day weekend going on here. I don't have to go back to work until Wednesday, Tuesday being a holiday I just took a personal day off Monday. 
Update: seller agrees to return, he's going to file a damage report with USPS. Sad thing is, he said he didn't buy the extra 250 insurance for what-- 50 cents?????

The insurance is almost impossible to collect upon, unless it was packaged according to approved standards.

You do wear proper shop attire, right? Genuine flip flops. An uncomfortable machinist is an unsafe machinist.
Well the news gets worse. I thought of what @agedhorse said about maybe repairing the bent knob so I plugged in the amp. It never left "Protection" mode. The Eden light, which usually turns green when it goes active, stayed in "red" mode. It never started up. When I got the amp, it was packed in a medium USPS Priority box. The poor guy didn't have a chance. Not enough padding, and on top of that, he wrapped the SIDES and TOP of the amp with bubble wrap, but not the front! Then he used beans for bracing. It was the perfect storm for damage. I kind of schooled him on using more bubble wrap everywhere and a larger box, and buying the extra insurance. Man, when a sale fails for me it really really fails! Luckily if all else fails eBay has a record of our transaction and emails and if he resists eBay will just refund the money. If that happens of course I'll ship back to him on my own dime. I'm superstitious (being Alaska Native ha ha) and I believe there's some bad karma in the amp. Good to get it out of my life. Matter of fact I got it in my shed! LOL
