Well the news gets worse. I thought of what @agedhorse said about maybe repairing the bent knob so I plugged in the amp. It never left "Protection" mode. The Eden light, which usually turns green when it goes active, stayed in "red" mode. It never started up. When I got the amp, it was packed in a medium USPS Priority box. The poor guy didn't have a chance. Not enough padding, and on top of that, he wrapped the SIDES and TOP of the amp with bubble wrap, but not the front! Then he used beans for bracing. It was the perfect storm for damage. I kind of schooled him on using more bubble wrap everywhere and a larger box, and buying the extra insurance. Man, when a sale fails for me it really really fails! Luckily if all else fails eBay has a record of our transaction and emails and if he resists eBay will just refund the money. If that happens of course I'll ship back to him on my own dime. I'm superstitious (being Alaska Native ha ha) and I believe there's some bad karma in the amp. Good to get it out of my life. Matter of fact I got it in my shed! LOL

This happens all too often. I ship gear as part of my day job, if you saw what I see you would understand better my earlier comments

I was learning from another thread the the GK 400RB and 700RB heads are legendary and sound much better than their modern counterparts, the MB series. I'm wondering if they sound even better than the Fusion series. Some of the TB'ers talked about having an RB head stashed away even though they "upgraded" to lighter Class D heads but missed the special "magic" that the RB series created. I told them I didn't know, I came aboard with GK after the MB series came out. Up until then I used Made In USA Peavey classic amps-- the heads, cabs, and combos. Now I own two MB's. MB200 and MB500.

I saw that there are many RB's on sale on eBay for a song and I'm thinking about picking one up to see what all the discussion is about. What say ye, GOF's?

Oh, P.S. I'm a cheapskate and love Ernie Ball Slinky's and Hartke XL strings by the 3 pack! :laugh:

It may be a legitimate preference, but it may also be a case of rose-tinted spectacles. Even an RB800 would be pretty underpowered for me, unless I was willing to go back to large, old-school cab stacks.

G-K almost made my A-list back when the original RB 400 and 800's were new. But there was something quacky and "transistory" about the upper mids and treble that put me off.

I still feel the same way about them. No such reservations about the later RB's (1001 is my fave), MB's or Fusions.
