I got offered a new position at my job today.

Sideways move, same money etc.

Part of the job is that I get to yell at the idiots I work with when they mess up, and these punks could screw up a one car funeral.

Wife says a grumpy old fart (she used a different four letter word that begins with f) like myself would be perfect for the job.

I agree.

I have this "thing" that, after I'm grown up and out on my own, I shouldn't be asking Mon and Dad for things.

I figure if I can't get it on my own...then I just might have to do without....

Not saying they completely kicked me out of the nest.....I did ask them for small help years ago a couple times...and they gave it....but by and large, I'm supposed to be "my own person" now.

Any time they say, "well, you're just going to have to work that out on your own"....I love them more for that than anything.....

They gave me all the foundation and common sense I'll ever need........using it is up to me. ;)

Congrats, Neener! Obviously, the boss knows how to use the talents of his team. That's close to a dream job. I'd grump about all the extra responsibility and see if after a few months of whipping the kids into shape you don't get a little bump in pay. Scowl a lot and say things like, "What am I going to do with you guys?" :cool:

What do old farts have to do with amps you ask?

Old bass players just love their tube amps.

The warm blu glow of a hot tube is a normal thing. When I see that, impurities come to mind. A hot flash isn't normal. Old tubes can develop problems if there is too much voltage placed between the anode and cathode. The current flows through the tube. This happens because opposites attract. Too much flow and the it can get red hot. A hot a bias can make this happen.

Now if the tubes are hot and things are amped up the speaker gets going. When it comes to air, speakers suck and then they blow. They do it over and over again. If they don't do it in a musical way, people say their speakers suck. If a speaker gets overextended, it can blow.

Old farts can't always perform like their amp can. This can make them grumpy.

PS: Old speakers fart when they can't take what is fed to them. One thing that old farts have in common with their amps.

Now that is just plain insulting. We are "Grumpy Old Farts" and proud of it!!! It ain't an easy road we traveled so at least pay us the respect for our worn out shoes. Old timer my ass ---- you'll find out if you live long enough that the simple thing about getting old is that NOTHING is simple!

My son got me a Sports Illustrated calender for Christmas.It has a lot of nice pictures in it. I stare at it a lot. Now , about 4 posts up , Beans sticks in a picture of tubes. Freekin tubes. Tubes fer crissakes and I sat here and stared at it for 15 minutes. I never stared at my calender for that long. When I get done typing this , I'm gonna go give it one more peek. Fargin beautiful. Too bad I can't sniff 'em.

Leaning over a Marshall Superbass 100 circa 1969 during a concert, gettin a good whiff above the grill of those glowing bottles, just OMG. I do miss that.

That night on two Kustom 2x15s. Axe? Actual 1957 P with Rotosounds. I'd paid $150.00 for it. Later traded for a Traynor YBA-1A. It's kind a outrageous to think we knew how little or important or valuable this stuff would be. We did know it sounded great.:)

I have 2 juniors. One in HS one in college.
I thought there might be light at the end of the tunnel in about 6 years.

Thanks for the photo Beans. Very comforting knowing the SVT was paid for when they were little.
