These guys are a hoot, I sat and watched Carl modify/make this little holiday dude the other day. Off with his head and on with the skull and cap! .

^^^ He looks happy :D

My mom is in the hospital, went to ER the night before last with chest pains and they kept her. There last night until late, about an hour Noth of us. Turns out they don't think it's a heart attack, but seems to be a reaction to meds. But doing all the blood tests, her liver count was high, So they did a 2nd test yesterday and it was even higher, then they did an ultrasound. She hopes to make an escape today, but sadly won't be able to go to her great nieces wedding Saturday (out of state). On the upside, she's got a good room. No room mate and at the end of the hall... no neighbors. She seems in good spirits though.

Hey you grumpy guuuuuuuyys! I haven't been around so long I got one of those annoying emails. I was aghast that back in October there was a "all hands on deck" call out and I missed it. So, now there seems another....
Monday around 1-2 am, I was out smoking in the front yard, and the Marmaduke tagged along. Duke's a big lab and can snore, fart, and snort with the best of 'em. Hence, my complete shock to look down upon an adolescent pig.
Right under my, and my killer dog's nose, a different looking nose appeared: swine, baby. Now, this dude wasn't afraid of me or Marmaduke-- he and the lab had a sort of face off snorting at each other. He was obviously a domesticated swine, as Duke is a domesticated canine and I a primate. I stepped between the gladiators and ordered the canine inside (hell, Duke was surprised as me and didn't really know what to do with this intruder; also, he was a little bigger than the Marmaduke). Then I went back out and watched this pig go after the weeds along side the drive way. I'd killed it all with round up a week ago, but piggy was ripping it up by the mouthful (strange to me swine behavior). Possible x-files episode?!
I do feel ya'll's grump, exploring the slow death called life...
.. with love,
fnord!
happy thanksgiving everybody!

The other day a friend of my wife called looking for her and asked where she was. I told her I had left her in bed smoking. She replied that that was the way to leave her!!! ;)

Naaaaaaautaaaaay!

I bought me a Crimbo pressie! A Mackie ProFX12 mixer and carrying bag. :)

This is the third Mackie mixer that I own! The band I’m in at the moment requires five microphone inputs. My lil mixer has four and my big one ten but can’t fit into my lil Jeep along with my other stuff. This one will fit.

I've been looking that one over. How do you like it? Good build quality and all?

I’ve been in involved in the use of the 8 or 16 channel Mickie digital things, and they seem fine. Gigged thru the Behringer rack only gizmo, where all controls are accessed via iPad or similar app, including your monitor mix. That was slick, and the reason for an Post I made a couple weeks ago.

Primary gig is fixing to get one of the QSC TouchMix things...near idiot proof (we really need that feature) and I think they really sound great

I know Mackie is not considered pro quality gear by many, but I've never had a Mackie product let me down on a gig - and that includes the ProFX, VLZ series and PPM powered mixers. Some of my Mackie gear dates back to the 90's and hasn't ever been seen by a tech.

Many of my friends with mixers that cost two and three times as much didn't even make it a year before requiring service on their equipment. Obviously I'm a single data point, but IME Mackie makes some very nice stuff for gigging musicians.

Mackie sure seems like a lot of bang for the buck. I've really never heard anything bad about them. The better known brands (or maybe more pro brands is a better choice of words?) don't seem to have any better reviews and certainly less features for the lower end mixers. At least it seems that way for the lower priced mixers, like maybe $300 or $350 and less.

I really like that the lower end "pro" Mackies have USB for recording.

And those Mackie ProFX mixers are well designed for people who need to run sound from the stage and play an instrument at the same time. For me the Mackie's make it quick to dial in a good mix sound and easy to adjust on the fly. My guess is that pro sound techs would want/need more to really fine tune the mix, but for a quick and reliably/consistently decent sound in a club, the Mackies are hard to beat IME.

1604VLZ... so much potential but every one of the dozen or so that I sold & installed ultimately failed in less than 10 years. Every Yamaha console I installed lasted as long as the installation, with some straight forward maintenance. Some ran for over 20 years.
