Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

We have just discovered that the lady next door was diagnosed with ALS In October. She showed up to our Street Party in August looking like she had lost a prize fight. Black and blue she was. She said that she had tripped and fallen on the sidewalk. We accepted this as very plausible. Our whole area's sidewalks have been messed with in order to run Bell’s fibre optic cables to each house. Now we know better. :(

Not a good Christmas all around. :(

All that said, I would like to wish the GOFs all the best and add the hope that the next year will be better than this one.
I know you and @BadExample have had some rough patches and I hope 2018 is a better year for you both.

I learned long ago that a gift (or reward) is 100% about the perceived value from the perspective of the person receiving it. While there is some conventional wisdom that can serve as a decent guide until you get to know someone, the thought behind a gift and obvious attentiveness to needs or desires is what makes gifts truly meaningful as relationships mature.
Well said my friend!

Nope. He's fine. As evidenced in another thread:

 bro @BadExample behave! Or Santa will spank you instead of treating you. Your personal Mrs. Santa, that is.... ;)

I just have a feeling that Alaskans, perhaps due to the rugged environment, are a bit more sensitive than the rest of us

God bless him... living in an igloo, and only having a dog sled to get to and fro, and not having the benefit of a proper Canadian accent, eh?

You asked for it-- now I'm gonna tell Mrs. Santa Clause!
P.S. Those Canadian accents sure are lovely on some of those Canadian lasses.... ahhh to be 30 years younger....

I hope I didn't upset my brother ALB... I do appreciate his concerns. As I rub stuff on me to relieve pain...

@BassmanPaul was it biofreeze you suggested I try for muscle pain?
Not sure what BassmanPaul's preference is, but my chiropractor introduced me to BioFreeze like 20 years ago and it works great for muscle aches. There may be a difference in strength between what chiropractors sell and what you can now buy commercially, but the stuff I get from the doc works very well.

Merry Christmas, GOF’s!

Had a stellar time this morning, playing a stripped-down acoustic set at church with my EUB. 12 songs, really enjoyed not having anything hung around my neck.

Grump content: I’m still new to upright, and need to work on the angle of the stand- my wrist started to hurt a little after a while. It’s been quite a while since a musical toy really felt like a new adventure.

Also, I shaved off my beard last week, and no-one has commented yet. Seems like bringing a stick bass is the only way a GOF can get noticed around here!

Merry Christmas GOF's!

I have a repeat of Thanksgiving... too danged sick to go visit and risk spreading the funk. Especially don't want to make my mother get sick. She doesn't need that. It seems to be almost over, so I might get to go out tomorrow.

Belated merry Christmas y’all...hope everyone got what they wanted, including fat.

Spent the dat in the Texas Hill Country, 1st visiting hot wife’s son, wife, and lovely children in New Braunsfels...then an hour trip out just north of Canyon Lake for a KILLER meal with my stupidity talented sister and her beau. Bone in prime rib, gawd have mercy. $90/btl whiskey...oh man...but the best part as always was the company...

The 5 hr drive home was spent dodging deer though...damn. Anyhow y’all waddle off the cookies, and start practicing for New Years

Another successful Christmas gathering. That means so assault or homicide charges were filed. So far...
Not that my sister didn't tempt several of us.
I started a friendly rivalry with my son last year when I gave him a gift card that was inside a hollowed out 2x4 that was held together by about 20 drywall screws. Knowing that retaliation was likely this year, this time I did something similar except that it was milled out of a couple pieces of 1/2" aluminum plate held together with what appeared to be 20 countersunk including 4 tamper proof screws and 16 flat head socket screws. Only 8 of them actually did anything. The rest were decoys. I had plans to include a couple hidden roll pins to hold the top and bottom together after the screws were out and to mill all outer surfaces at non-parallel compound angles to make it hard to clamp in a vice, but my wife talked me out of it. I shouldn't have listened because my son's gift for me was a muddy shovel and a poem giving hints where my actual gift was buried in the back yard. Keep in mind that we got 8" of snow the day before and it was 15 degrees out with 30 mph winds. He won this round, but I'm already planning for next year.

We had a very quiet Christmas this year. Wife Carey got the usual number of phone well wishes. We watched a bunch of Alfred Hitchcock films on TCM and loved it. We did something different this year. Since it's just the two of us, we bought a turkey breast instead of the whole bird. It's literally the turkey that's had it's legs and wings amputated. Well, it took less time to cook and the meat was still very moist and tender. I'm always a dark meat kind of guy but this little Norbest bird convinced me I could eat the healthier side and still enjoy it. Stove Top stuffing, premade microwave mashed potatoes. Wife made her own mashed sweet potatoes and they were divine. Add some cranberries, olives, and Knorr Turkey gravy. It was a heavenly dinner.

We got a great deal on Calphalon Commercial Quality 13 piece cookware for Carey, she's a retired sous chef and makes heavenly tidbits and we both love quality cookware. I got the new Sony flat screen TV because the other 5 year old was starting to go dim. I bought it on Cyber Monday and got a great deal on it. So at our age, those two gifts were enough. And the quiet company of each other and a good meal.

Thank you GOF's for listening to my ramblings from time to time. I enjoy talking to guys that can relate to my life experiences.

Hell, that's why we're GOF's!

Maybe you overthought this - his comeback has simplicity and elegance.
I like it.
