An interesting scary experience we had. Wife Carey woke up 3:30 in the morning so dizzy she could barely stand up. She went into panic mode (understandably) and we called the ambulance. Well, she calmed down and her heart rate returned to normal. She was admitted to the community hospital from the ER for observation.
Turns out, it was a balance issue. We all have microscopic hairs that live in our inner ears in liquid. Imagine seagrass floating straight up and down. Well, these hairs, depending on position, tell our brain which way we're leaning. Lean right, hairs move to the right. Well, as we get older, some people create microscopic "rocks" so to speak, mineral particles. These microscopic" rocks lay on the hairs and tilt them in different directions, even when we're standing upright. So the hairs are telling our brain we're leaning left or right, and trying to move the body accordingly.
The solution? Lay on the bed, and there's a head motion that will cause the rocks to fall off the hairs. It's so odd it's almost comical. Well, after 11 hours we got home and both fell asleep all night until this morning. I'm home with wife today to make sure she's ok. But these incidents as we get older continue to remind me how precious our time is with our loved ones. When David Cassidy died, his last words were, "so much wasted time." I'm going to tell my wife a lot more how precious she is to me. I tell her often and she gladly says she loves me back. But I think I'll do more of the little things that show her how precious she is.
Going to get a hanky now to dry my eyes..... and yes, I got the "rocks in the head" connection....
