Twice a day, in that order. The electric flosser gets under the gums to reduce inflammation and long term bone loss.

IME, just brushing and flossing are not enough as the years go by.

When I was an apprentice I had a tooth ache. I went to the company dentist who just pulled the thing out. This was around the time when Dentists thought that natural teeth should be pulled and replaced with Dentures. About ten or so years ago my dentist sent me to a guy who replaced the tooth with an implant. So, at the age of virtually 72, I have all my teeth except for the implant and a couple of Wisdom teeth. Probably why I’m as thick as I am!!!

Being Alaska Native, we were poor growing up. We were relegated to Public Health care. In the late 50's early 60's PHS was not a good place to go. Seeing the PHS dentists mentally scarred me for life. I lost a good half of my teeth getting pulled out rather than properly fixed and the visits were painful. Well, a couple years ago two of my teeth were in bad shape and I bit the bullet and went to the new PHS dental clinic. The difference is night and day. Most of the staff are wonderful professional ladies and they are excellent at their work. New techniques make it non-painful and pretty fast. So for me my tooth story has a happy ending.

I agree with all your points, but in my case it likely wasn't poor maintenance. I had a parathyroid problem (not thyroid) that eventually caused osteoporosis and bone loss in my jaw. Fortunately I found an endocrine surgeon who removed 3 1/2 of the 4 parathyroid glands and got my blood calcium levels down. The long term after effect was that at the bone loss in my jaw triggered something called external dental resorption that caused my body to start absorbing the roots on the two teeth nearest the bone loss. It was either pull 'em now or wait until they fell out or broke off. I chose the preemptive approach. When my GP heard about it he ordered a bone density scan to make sure the osteoporosis isn't flaring up again. I haven't cracked any ribs in a while, so I'm hoping for negative test results.

Has swambo caught on to you bringing wood home from the dentist every appointment? I hope you aren't taking it out on her Poor thing.

59 F now and misty fog after some rain. It's supposed to get about cut in half over the next 4 hours to 31 F, then continue dropping to 15 F tomorrow. Supposed to get the whole buffet too! Rain, freezing rain, ice pellets and finally snow.

Well, it's not something that should just be flossed over if we're ever going to bridge the gap and implant some understanding in people. We need to brace ourselves to straighten them out.

$$$. My insurance wouldn't pay the only time it was ever offered. My last several dentists never caused enough pain to need the gas. It was offered when I had a molar-ectomy but insurance wouldn't pay so I passed on it. That didn't hurt either. Even cleaning doesn't hurt. That used to be horrid. My first dentist was really good, but he was the type to put his knee on your forehead to keep you still. He retired.

@spankdaplank Looks like Mayon Volcano in my soon to be backyard got a little grumpy over the weekend. I wish I were there. My take:

1. Active volcanoes are bad
2. There's nothing you can do about them, but stand back, so
3. Stand back and enjoy the show

When it behaves, it reminds me of Mt. Fuji. It's been a long time, but when it got really grumpy, it threw refrigerator sized rocks to the edge of Lagaspi City.

I've never seen a whale shark near it, nor the eerie glowing dome it got over the weekend.

I was in southern Arizona living in a pop up camper for three weeks. I was competing my dawgs in field trials. Gettin too old for that. Trying to sleep in pu with 40 mph wind is no fun. I'm home!!
