Checking in on Friday's roll call. A local guy who does everyone's firewood had been itching to do ours so he arrived on Saturday with a log splitter where he had disabled all safety features. He could run it with a self-made pedal. He has ever cut off the tip of his thumb, that's all. His grip is peculiar - he takes the foot-and-a-half piece of log grabbing it with his knuckles and places it on the platform, then pushes on the pedal to split the log, then rotates the remaining half and repeats. Scary. I was content to carry the firewood and stack it. For two days. On the weekend.

Just heard that a FOH engineer that I've know for quite a few years (like over 20) and was my old shop tech's sound company partner on the Big Island of HI, lost his house and his daughter also lost her house near by. My friend's house is safe as they are about 10 miles away but everything is relative.

Sure makes relatively little problems seem pretty trivial...

Prayers and hopeful thoughts for your friends. That's such a tragedy. I couldn't talk wife into going there this summer. Who knows when this is going to clear up.

If I go, it would likely end up being a working vacation. I have a fair number of friends who live on the big island, was there 2 years ago.

Great band, some outstanding writing and playing. Got to hear some of the rough mixes as they were coming together and I was very impressed. My friend is a much better player than he will ever admit and it shows on this album.

A couple months ago I met an ex-Forest Ranger who worked at Volcanoes National Park there and has a home "above the lava that has been flowing for the past 30+ years. Fascinating to hear about the rise and fall of islands created by volcanoes. At that time they felt pretty confident that their home was very safe.

Since hearing of these new fissures opening up, I've been praying for the people newly involved. I don't know the specific location of my acquaintance's house, nor these new fissures and flows, but it certainly can be just as devastating as a hurricane, wildfire, landslide or tornado. Even "paradise on earth" has it's natural disasters.

Hey GOF's to those of you who served-- To ALL our allies thank you for your service protecting freedom.

Nowadays that includes the fine soldiers from Canada, UK, Europe, Philippines, and Japanese troupes that have fallen in the war against terror in the Middle East and Afghanistan, and anywhere freedom had to be defended.

1000's of Filipinos serving the US Navy as well. If all the NAVAIR Filipino enlisted dropped out on the same day, flight ops would stop for a year. And the chow would become inedible. Mmmm, more inedible. I hear small boats can have decent chow.

hey, I am definitely old and most definitely grumpy (just ask ex-wife, kids, co-workers, people at church, dog) A true curmudgeon as one of my bosses described me right before I told him to get bent. Snarky, as my current boss describes me, but I like him so didn't tell him to get bent. Anywho, how do I get a number?
