Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

If anyone is going through the door, I make it a point to smile and hold it open for them.

When my wife was just seventeen, she took the bus to Boston to visit her sister. She arrived in the early morning, the station was a dump, mostly empty, and a bit of a scary place. Her sister was late so she went outside to look for her. On the way back in, a big guy had opened the door and she went through and thanked him. He started cussing her out, saying that he wasn't a doorman for white people. He was full of rage. Thankfully, it didn't go beyond that. Welcome to Boston!

She was a bit rattled and waited near someone in uniform. Without ever knowing it, that soldier helped her to feel safe.

Times have changed which is good. How they’ve changed is the problem.

In training, there used to be an inverse proportional relationship between good behavoir and mild corporal punishment. You tried to be good, otherwise there was always the threat that your parents would kill you. Well, we exagerated at bit as kids.

Many parents today brag that their kids are all gifted. That is, they get lavished with a lot of gifts. There’s a new model now, a proportional relationship between good behavior and what the kids are bribed with.

Being financially strapped has a whole different meaning today.

The reality of life is there are consequences for things you do. Put your hand on a hot stove top, run a red light, disobey parents....

It's up to the parents to teach children the realities of life. The lessons are easier to learn when you are young. If your not taught as a child, the lessons become harsher as an adult. Prison, poverty or worse.

Being Alaska Native I was raised in a matriarchal family. Although Mom was the boss, if she said "wait till Dad gets home, you're getting a spanking," that put the fear in us. Most of the time, though he never spanked us LOL. Being taught manners and respect starts at a very young age. When we were only 3 and 6 my brother and I were taught to salute the flag and learned what the Star Spangled Banner meant to Americans. Same for any other country.

I think the more we move away from a community based society, the less accountability for the individual. No accountability-- no concept of consequences. And we've seen as of late and on a regular basis how deadly that has become. What's the solution? Shut off the phones and go play outside, Junior! And if you come back too dirty wait till Dad gets home! I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this but it might not hurt to go to a place of faith once a week too....

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model.

I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull, but that's not the worst of it.

My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close.

My traction is not as graceful as it once was.

I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.

It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed.

My fuel rate burns inefficiently.

But here's the worst of it --

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter.....either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

Where you live is your place of faith. All you need to do is walk outside and look up. The one that put this here is an Over Achiever.☺

Yeah, the tail makes 'em look ratlike, but they're more like a woodchuck crossed with a beaver. They're rodents, that's for sure. They have semi webbed feet, swim fast, go up to 65 lbs, make good eatin', and their pelts are used to make high zoot womens coats.

I'll remain in the Jeep while Jim wrestles the alligators.
And now a word from Mutual of Omaha! :D

Their fur also makes very good and durable hats.
