The irony is...if one is not in the oil biz, the the Permian Basin is a gawd-awful hell hole in which to live. Hyper inflated prices on everything imaginable. We have the highest cost of living, comparable to luxury subdivisions in metroplexes elsewhere. Rents have risen an average of 20% in one year.

Teachers are critically short supply, as most starting salaries cannot cover cost of living here; gas is highest in the state by 15%; I could go on for hours.

And for those old enough, when the next bust hits (and it will) it will be uglier than ever before
Sounds like California.

The figs are finally ripe here is 5 enough or 6 too many :D:D

Brought our veteran Friesian out to finish up the tour, she's performing in the final week's shows then a formal retirement ceremony for she and another veteran horse. Bittersweet for sure, she is one of our all time favorite horses. Showed her the routine only once and she got it all figured out. Going to miss performing with her.

How do the horses cope with hot weather?

Do they sufficiently self regulate in terms of water intake? Not all people are good at that. You don’t want the horses to get bunged up or sluggish due to lack of moisture.

Do you give them salt to encourage them to drink more or feed them a soft hydrated horse chow?

They get stressed out, but relieve themselves by slipping Andy the tongue.

View attachment 3095036 Here's a picture of me with the old horse that is retiring after this run of shows. Awesome horse, been part of the group for about 12 years.

Way cool. Are you far enough south to avoid the smoke from the Redding fire? We've already been having a rash of nasty ones up here but so far the wind direction has worked in my favor, thankfully.

Depending on the wind, we are getting smoke from either Redding or Yosemite. Pretty bad yesterday. Know you are getting smoked out up where you are.

Ouch. Actually, the only smoke I'm getting here today is from my neighbor's commercial brisket rig out in his front yard. Mildly annoying, but at least it smells (and tastes) good. 25 miles southeast of here is a whole different story. It's wheat harvest season and a combine sparked a big one yesterday. The really huge one last week was probably arson. No Bueno. That area used to be part of my wife's FedEx route and we know quite a few people out that way. Hoping August is better!

USA gettin' it bad - wildfires, flooding, and out here in the Northeast tornadoes. Had a couple EF1's a couple nights ago at like 2 AM, one about ten miles from me on the ground for four miles. Last week I drove right through an EF0 on the highway with my kid in the car about a mile from my house :wideyed:. Luckily there were no trucks nearby - could have blown one into me :nailbiting:.

During my time driving 18 wheelers, I had the somewhat dubious "honor" of sleeping in the truck as a hurricane went through within 20 miles. Once in Georgia, and once in FL about 6 miles from where I now live. Not really a lotta fun.:rollno:
