I once read that he would review strudent’s answers while they were writing their exams. He’d tell them if they passed or failed on the spot. No pressure there.

Happy Birthday.....
104 years ago today, Professor Einstein published his ground breaking General Theory of Relativity.
Besides showing the space and time were intertwined and that space-time can curve, his work also predicted infinite curvature of space-time. The modern term for this infinite curvature is a “black hole”.
He was kinda smart.
I have to replace/repair a 40", 1080 LED TV in our RV. I thought it would be a good time to review 4K TV's.
A replacement 1080 would be $200. A 4K would be $350. Problem is, the 4K would need a Directv upgrade of $300+ to receive 4k. I could get an Apple TV device for $175 if I had ample streaming service which I don't (only data plan). Considering the costs and the lack of 4k media, the choice was simple. As much as manufacturers are promoting 4k and 8k, it isn't there yet, unless I am missing something? 1080 lives on...YMMV.
Any thoughts?
Making the rounds: you have the superpower to put Robocop in any movie. Which movie do you choose?
I think that the current movie industry is destroying itself. I’m not inclined to support out of touch actors who want to dictate how everyone else should live.
I gave up on going to theaters. There are too many inconsiderate people talking to each other, on their phones, and constantly banging the back of chairs.
If I want to watch a movie, I buy it.

I vote for Steamboat Willie.Like a movie that's already been made. Like put Robocop in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Or The Music Man.

My next TV will be Samsung. I’ve looked into it and like their technology and products. They outsell all the others from what I see in stores.
There still doesn’t seem to be a lot of 4K available. Like you say, lots of promises but they are slow to roll it out. If you want 4K for sports, movies, or any other specific reason now, it looks good but comes with a cost. Personally, I don’t need 4K to watch old movies.
All these sets do some type of upconverting so a better device may produce a better image.
I like that you can stream youtube or tv shows through your large screen. If I miss a show, whatever network that broadscasts it has it online for free. As you said, you need a plan.
You can get an HDTV antenna. I know people that use them. You have to live in an area that has transmitters close enough.
If you bought a 1080 to meet your needs for now, it isn’t going to be a big loss to upgrade in a few years when the technology is less expensive.
I hear you...I was going to get a Samsung 40" 4K for $150 more than a Vizio 40" 1080 but, found out the additional cost to actually receive 4K (limited) content was just too much. Upconverting sounds good, but I doubt that you can get the quality of an image that wasn't there in the first place. In my areas (home and RV) there is no reception for OTA HD transmissions so, 1080 it will remain, for now.
