Only the observation that "like" and "pun" are rarely used together.

There is a story of a home for aged and aging punsters Mark Twain published in an anthology of humor. There are strict rules, particularly regarding dinner table etiquette. Every pun possible about meals played out long ago for these GOFs to the point where the rules were necessary to keep order.

Also, I recall, the home for aged and aging punsters was men only. The writer's premise was women are incapable of a pun ....

We are discussing The Great Gatsby. Standard 11th form stuff [then]. In the halcyon days when most of the girls owned a copy of Richard Brautigan's poems. <ahem> Never mind that. Horrible. Yes, The Great Gatsby.

It's the scene at the end of the novel where he's looking out over the bay and sees two green lights on the two docks. We are asked what the meaning of this may be. (We are getting learned about metaphors.) Raise hand. He calls on me.

Teaching a narrow subject like Tom Sawyer is only useful if taught concurrently with all else going on in arts & letters, science, and history. For example, our course in Jane Austin included consideration of exactly what kind of world she lived in with lectures from professors of every other department in the university.

That was then when we were expected to put our best forward without regard to if it will pan out to some lucrative venture. So pretty much the same mindset in the English department as the music department. Yeah I did that university music theory course and it sure felt brutal to me. Funny how I keep at it? What's with that.

A lot of restored vintage amps have bondo jobs that are covered by a re-skin. They can come out looking good.

Yes, substituting the N-word with “slave” is reasonable. But extensively rewriting the text to suit political correctness is another story.

For example, removing “merry christmas” in A Christmas Carol because it offends atheists and non-christians is simply nuts.

Freedom of speech doesn't die with the speaker/writer. It's history and needs to be read in context of the times.

Friends, if I’ve ever done Anything that falls under the heading of ‘Tough’, I did it today...a Huge day...lots of kids & families coming together to celebrate a new home!
12 folks for a great lunch, a trip to the y’all mall...it goes on.

Starting at about noon my feet (it’s a 15-year long story) started to ache (my chronic lot in life), and then began to throb with pain I could feel up into my heel & beyond...
and all the while I smiled...and cheered for lil kids...and listened to hunting stories...and admired the art of a Special Olympian...

and nobody knew.
