Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

For the third night this week, I'm reminded just how much I dislike painting. I've been prepping a bathroom that has a lot of issues. Some plumbers were in a couple of years ago, they had to butcher the walls. A drywall guy came in and left the ceiling uneven with bumps in the skim coat. The painter came in and applied latex over an enamel base without any undercoat. It didn't take long for the paint to fail. When they applied a clear silicone caulk around the vanity that runs the length of the room and down to the floor, they managed smear a thin layer, about an inch wide, on the walls in the walls. Paint doesn't stick to that. These professionals were working for an insurance company, I had no choice in the matter and signing off on the work was not an option.

Last weekend I decided to start repairing it. Bought some supplies and started work. Started with some plumbing and tile grout repairs. Removing the caulk took two nights. What a nightmare using solvents and scraping it from the walls. Repatched the walls, the wallboard plaster takes time to dry. It should take one more evening to finish prepping. Next will come a smelly oil based primer. Spot tested it on some of the repairs and it works well. Then painting with a mold and mildew latex. I'll probably be at it till early next week.

When that's done and I have a bit of a break, I have a request to start on the kitchen. I keep telling myself that it shouldn't be that bad.

Lessons leanrned, get some good lighting, the right tools, and painter's cloths and a cap. An assistant would be nice.

Did I mention that I hate painting?

Catching up here!

I played a short scale Gretsch that the guitarist in one of my bands owns yesterday. I haven't touched a shorty since I sold my EB-0 back in the 70's. I have to say, that was a nice little instrument with a great neck and I can certainly see why it would appeal to someone. I might have to revisit the whole short-scale thing myself.

Sushi. I love sushi. Resisted it for a few years but a boyfriend dragged me kicking and screaming to try it one night and I fell utterly in love. I don't eat much of it these days as my budget won't allow it. It's hard to figure out how to pay for all these basses with a sushi habit.

Retirement: Oh, how I long to retire. I took an early retirement from my University of California job so have some money coming in every month from that, but I still need to work. It's nice in the sense that I can work part-time for myself and make more time for music. But I would love, love, LOVE to do nothing but make music and play in my garden. That's likely not going to happen for a few more years, but a gal can dream.

Oh, and I have two dogs that are complete lushes. Both will dip into anything alcoholic that one might leave unattended. I don't give them alcohol on purpose, well occasionally a small sip of beer just because they like it, but not enough to impair anyone but the ants on the pavement where I spill it for them.

I don't mind painting, it's the prep that is sometimes a pain.

I did apartment maintenance for about 5 years as a part-time job back in the day. Did a lot of painting. No assistants.:bored:

What color is the finished paint?

Pics or...:bawl:

Color is light, a toned down eggshell.

I spoke to an apartment painter for some tips. They tend to slap it on without any prep because they repaint often. He said that he gets paid $75 to do a bathroom. They are motivated to get in and out quickly.

Maybe find a part time job at a sushi place that hires musicians to play and provides free food. If the stage is small, maybe a short scale bass would be in order. Nothing like having good dreams.

Painting...*sigh*... I'm actually quite good at it, but that's mostly because of all the practice I got while in the Navy. All that salt makes painting often a necessity. I was a sonar technician (submarine hunter) but spent about 98% of my time scraping and painting the equipment used to hunt the submarines. I was good at that too. I still hate to paint...

Morrighan's Rule 1: Never paint for any reason great or small. Rule 2: See rule 1.

I hate paint, hate it near me or on me and especially on me. I believe my reply to the generous offer of a weekend of painting fun sounds something like I'll eat cap pewp on toast before I paint. (Same phraseolgoly finds use if offered inedibles like oatmeal or pancakes or carrots.) Yes to sushi and have a soft sport for sea urchin with quail's egg.

Way down on the GAS list but still present is another short scale. My CHB-1 semi-hollowbody is shortscale and never knew how much fun it is until it followed me home. I haven't given my basses any beer?

Just an aside now that this grumpiness blooms:

Serious about pancakes being inedible to me (also, waffles, any cereal hot or cold &c). There is a particular morning still recalled when I saw my relationship was over when my (then) SO made me blueberry pancakes for breakfast. That is a serious breech of courtesy and understood as same.

Also: any tomato sauce, marinara or any variation of it :vomit::vomit::vomit::vomit: My kitchen is strictly carrot-free as well.
