Here's a grumpy old fart scenario for you:
Just got an email from our Lakes Association president giving us news about a "sound circus" coming to our neck of the woods. Literally.
An event promoter has somehow convinced town council to approve a permit for a four-day, all-day/all-night, outdoor EDM festival to take place about 1 mile south of the lake sector of our little town in Quebec on a July weekend. About 2500 people are expected to attend. This event has been run out of several towns in the past handful of years due to noise, disruption and disorder and violating the peace in the dairy industry.
I cannot imagine a worse location for this - in the middle of nowhere, down a really rural one lane dirt road, taking place at what is essentially a clearing in the woods and home to a hunt camp. Very limited infrastructure and nearby to lakefront vacation properties in what is normally a nice quiet place. And a worse time - height of summer vacation season. The nearby town has extremely limited services. 25 minute drive to the next biggest town with services. Stupid and disruptive. Population in the immediate area will go from 250 to 2750 overnight.
Now, I know how these small town mafias operate - the owner of the property in question is the second-cousin of the wife of the uncle of the mayor of the town. Approved! With appropriate kickbacks! I've grumpily registed my old fart opposition with town council that will fall on deaf ears. It won't even matter that lakefront property owners make up about 80% of the tax base in this town...
I'm going to set up a bottled water and Freezie concession up the road a bit. A buck a bottle/Freezie. Two bucks if you're wearing a ridiculous costume and smell of patchouli!
There. I feel better.
