Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I was 16 years old kid and a relative threw me the keys to his brand spanking new Alfa-Romeo and told me to take it for a spin. Being responsible, I smiled but declined.

He was a plumber. Two plumbers in the family and both did very well.
When Carey and I moved back to Sitka we stayed in the RV park for a while. One day a beautiful hand painted 40 foot motor home with matching Jeep pulled in. The theme was “American Eagle.” He even had matching his and her coats.

“Sheesh, is that guy a retired millionaire or politician?”
“Nope,” replied the park manager, “retired plumber.” :bored:

It pays to be innovative. I’ve played washtub basses but never a shovel guitar.

We played a gig at a birthday party last summer where the birthday "boy" received one of those as a present. He promptly plugged it in and jammed with us on Honkytonk Women.

Just back from winning WWII,
Good Gawd, That generation was Confident!!

Plastic seat cover! The baby was sitting in a bucket so there shouldn't have been any leakage. That kid would be a GOF by now.

My parents didn't have a car until I was 6 years old, so I never got a child seat...but none of my three little brothers had one either. Someone just held whatever kid was too small to sit up on his own.

No car seats as well when I was a kid. No seatbelts either.

My parents used to have roast beef for lunch every Sunday. This was followed by a ride in the Pontiac.

Suffering from motion sickness, I would regularly hang out the window and puke while we were going down bumpy country roads. My dad was more concerned that I hung out far enough so as to not get anything on the paint job. Hosing down the side of the car when we got back was a ritual.

When we were young we lived on a Federally managed island in Sitka. We couldn't afford a car. I remember going to the store with Mom and Dad and we all packed paper shopping bags across a bridge home. We rode bikes without helmets. Babies ate lead paint off of cribs. We ran with scissors! I never heard of lawsuits by parents for anything. Did I miss something growing up????

You missed the same things I did Will, being inundated with things like huge warning signs that plastic bags should not be worn over your head, that flames from stove burners may be hot, and similarly endless, litigiously based nonsense that robbed life of all the fun of just being a kid. Is it any wonder that kids today simply sit and stare at electronic devices? I mean if they get up to go play outside they are immediately cautioned that they could trip on the rug or fall on the sidewalk and hurt themselves if not wearing protective clothing and a helmet. That's what we missed!! :)

For the record, I'm not against safety awareness. I'm just against letting insurance companies, governments and lawyers dictate every aspect of my life and requiring helmets, padded suits and ear protection just to walk down a busy street.
