You missed the same things I did Will, being inundated with things like huge warning signs that plastic bags should not be worn over your head, that flames from stove burners may be hot, and similarly endless, litigiously based nonsense that robbed life of all the fun of just being a kid. Is it any wonder that kids today simply sit and stare at electronic deceives? I mean if they get up to go play outside they are immediately cautioned that they could trip on the rug or fall on the sidewalk and hurt themselves if not wearing protective clothing and a helmet. That's what we missed!!

For the record, I'm not against safety awareness. I'm just against letting insurance companies, governments and lawyers dictate every aspect of my life and requiring helmets, padded suits and ear protection just to walk down a busy street.

At a local music swap meet Sunday someone showed me his new U-Bass. It charges a supercapacitor in a few seconds via USB and will supposedly run for 8+ hours on that charge. At least two other companies were showing basses like that at NAMM in 2018 as well. I haven't really looked into the overall "greenness" of doing things that way, but at first blush it seems pretty appealing.

The understanding I hold from TB of the Fender-era Stingray preamp is there is so little current draw the battery should last years. Change mine every six months. Because.

The onboard preamps I build draw 8-20 times the current of the pre-EB MM 2-band one and typically still go at least 6 months for those who practice and/or gig for a few hours a day, every day. When I get to 6 months I swap the batteries into my tuner pedal or something else with very low draw, and get many months or even years out of them.

Speaking of Operation Dynamo....

Think of the possibilities for recharging your preamp battery. Piezo under your bridge sending electricity to the battery. Energy in plucking your strings is recycled. Now this would be silly if I said that the piezos were also in your shoes, or would it.
