Canon F1 FTW, original, or the "n" version (one of which I had for many years).

I do have an F2 Photomic in my collection with a small smattering of lenses for it, including a 50/3.5 Micro-Nikkor with extension tube. IIRC, I also have a FE that I have never tried using. For about a year, (until I came to my senses and sold it all for my first Linhof Technika), I owned an FM2 with several prime Nikkor lenses (24/2.8,35/2, 50 2.8 Micro-Nikkor, 105/2.5, 200/4).

After decades of owning/using view cameras (mostly field/technical ones-a couple of Wistas, a Horseman, several Linhofs, and an Ebony) I am back in the Canon fold, a 6D and threeeeeeeee L-Series zoom lenses, although I
keep thinking about getting a few TS-E lenses ($$$$$$$$$$).

Qualifying: The F3 was the stalwart of the press pool.

And remiss if no mention is made the photo press corps is not exactly friendly when it comes to the money shot. As in, not friendly with each other - bumping neighboring photographers as they shoot, jumping in their line of sight, &c. Who accredits who is a declaration of pecking order as well as access. What I observe is with access comes responsibility and not everyone sees things the same way here. What one considers skeevy behaviour is anothers' good day's work.

Received the new B&H catalog last week. Always interesting to check out all the camera supplies. I like the Cannon products, seem like a lot of pros use them. The 1D body is kind of pricey at $5,999. It's also huge, akin to an older camera with a big motor drive. The 6D looks interesting.

Drones are interesting as well. I can see using one for surveying country property, even going into the woods. Some have cameras that can also do IR, so good for security. Better than being shot at by idiot hunters.

The latest Apple iPad has a 4K camera on the back. Pretty good resolution for a device without a serious lens. I'm surprised that they don't have built in lens mounts. I suppose that they will come.

It was a workhorse. I bought mine from an old camera shop that was across the street from two major newspapers. They had everything in there. There was a bar/dive next door for the writers. All those buildings have been torn down.

We had an F3 at the lab that was used exclusively on the vertical copy stand (we had an old, and truly massive, horizontal repro stand/process camera, too, for truly large works to copy) for those clients who wanted/needed 35mm repros, otherwise the old faithful Busch Pressman D was used for all copy work (although, occasionally, a Hasselblad would see copy duty, too).

The replacement for the F3 was the F4, which grew so large that many photographers actually started to have physical problems with their right hand. IIRC, it was due to both weight and that the right hand grip was very deep front-to-back creating stress issues on tendons and whatnot.

I was at the fancy F4 introduction presentation and dinner at the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown L. A. in 1988. The presentation use 15 sllde projectors, all Hasselbads! At dinner after the presentation, I sat with the president of Nikon (I still have his business card ).

One editor told any who asked, I make designs on paper. Saw one fine lemonade stand next door to a newspaper of no mean reputation that featured a room where seamstress offer negotiable rates.

Photo department at the paper is well-regarded. No recent contact.

Things were quite a bit past Lounge Lizard 101, bullet holes in the light above the pool table didn't even begin to tell that story. Kerouac, Tom Robbins, and many other miscreants frequented that joint over the years. Several times developers have tried to raze it to build a high rise, but high friends in places have always stepped in to intercede. My old band use to play there in the 80s, and since we were the first electric act in forever, we even had First Band On The Moon T-shirts.

The guys around here use them out of season, I think. I doubt it's legal during an actual hunt. The company here pimps them for commercial fishing fleet usage too, FWIW.

Observing photojournalists are not the only sort to experience such a decision path.

The Brown Derby is one of those places ... some days Hollywood looks a great deal more like it did in Blade Runner than it may appear to. And The Brown Derby was one of the nice places on Hollywood Boulevard.

I've seen drones used for fishing, at one time they used aircraft. Technology turned the industry around. Couple that with underwater sonar, they know exactly where to go to get the fish.

The terms fishing and hunting are no longer appropriate. It's harvesting.
