Thought it was a Hoffner and second guessed myself There sure are a lot of Hoffner-style basses out there in the wild. Yet to play a Beatle bass myself. Last one I heard in person was an Epiphone. For no reason beyond my own, totally digging my semi-hollowbody. Really a pleasure to play and to hear. Being both my first passive bass and first bass with two pickups, still learning my way around all them there knobs and stuff. Finding it works differently than one might think it would.

I had a cool red 335 style bass in the 60's that I have fond memories of. I have no idea what happened to it.

I have a 500/1 (Beatle) bass. Nice short scale, comfortable neck. It has a unique kind of echoey sound. Once you hear it, you recognize the tone on the Beatle recordings.

all right all right putting the Chowny down for a few, plugging in the 'Ray. By now that preamp is intuitive. The original 2 band - read about it here at TB a few decades after figuring out how to get the tone out of it I need. "In the day" a Stingray got a lot of looks, by cracky.

My, "back in the day" was a tube amp with on/off switch, volume and tone knob. My bass had volume and tone knobs...I don't know about "by cracky" but it was super easy.

Given the choice between starting the engine with a hand crank or an ignition key, gonna choose the ignition key every time

Think I love everything about the EB-3 except owning and playing one .... everything about it is so cool. But no really clear idea what I'd use one for. The new SGs have all the right visual cues. Yet it seems to me modern equipment isn't up to the task.

admitted there is a definite attraction to the Creme-era EB-3 played well beyond the amp's design limits.

Interestingly, I never had the volume above 4(B-usually 10, T-4-ish, Presence-on)and it would fill a room. Never blew a speaker either, and that was using the 'Mudbucker' neck pup!
